Anyone going?

Newkie, how about some recommendations on restaurants? We're staying at the Hilton and the Exel (our car club) and will be doing dinner Friday and Saturday night.

Depending on the what your budget allows, I'll name a few good ones. Granted where your staying is pretty much chain restaurant heaven. These two hotels are on the restaurant, store strip of Grand Rapids.28th street. I like BD's Mongolian Barbeque 2619 28th street. You have probably eaten there, or heard of it. But if you like good food, lots of it, and fun at dinner, this is the place. 13.95 a person, all you can eat.
If you want somewhere nice, theres a Itallian restaurant called Tuscan Express 6450 28th street. Its one of our better Itallian places, and is 17.95 to 25.95 range.
There is also Grand Rapids Brewing company 3689 28th street, which is like a Bennigans, but with their own beer brewed. Its also fun, and the prices reflect what a Applebees or TGI Fridays would be like.
Otherwise you have Hooters,Smokey Bones,Bennigans,Macaroni Grill, and various Mexican restaurants all around your hotels. Lots of them, all types. If you eat in Lowell for lunch, there is a good one next to the river, and the riverboat that sits there. The name escapes me, but you cant miss it. Its, kind of upscale for lunch, but very good. Otherwise there is a couple of bars that serve good food.

I will see you there, and hope some of these selections help. The better places that I like to go are either downtown or on the other side of town.

P.S. I almost forgot, Branns steakhouse is a reasonable place thats fun. Its just of east of interstate 96 on 28th street.I beleive its in the Days inn location.

Art, thanks. I jotted everything down. I'm sure the others from the club have favorite places, but is nice to have some suggestions.

(Robert Rushing is in our STL car club, editor of MG Driver. I'm thinking there are 8 or 10 cars from our club heading north over the next few days)

Interesting, I used to live in the apartment complex that backs up to the Hilton property. I have people like you to thank for awakening my interest in MGs, seeing all those magnificant little cars around once each summer.

Brann's Steakhouse just east of the I-96 overpass at 28th Street is nice, as is the Big Boy two doors down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

[edit] Oh yeah, and the ribs at Damon's aren't half bad, just west of Patterson and 28th Street (where your hotel is).
