Anyone ever run Kuhmo tires?

I have not seen anything great written about them but never seen any bad comments either. I got the new 15 inch rims for my TR8 and now I am looking to put some tires on them. The Kuhmos are priced very well. I doubt I will be doing much auto crossing this summer but I will probably be putting lots of miles on them. I am also looking at a set of General Exclaim UHP.

Opinions?

Hi Pat - I have and am happy with them. Excellent value for the money and I didn't feel like they were a trade-off. Quality / handling was good.

Kuhmo's

DNK,

I am glad you are on the left coast because we have nearly the same color car (minus my gold bonnet addition), same color rims, and soon to be same tires. Might be embarassing to show up to the same car show in matching TR8 (clones)

I ran Kumhos for several years and loved them. I'd still be running them today if my tire hadn't been discontinued. I am now running a General, which has been a good tire. I only have one summer on them.
Look at The Tire Rack, www.tirerack.com to see the reviews on both tires and decide from there.

Hi Doug!!

Where ya been?!?!

I've run Kumho's for years. Ecsta 711's on my Dodge Neon, Ecsta Supra 712's on the wife's Mustang, then later the AST's on my BMW. I'd run them on my Porsche also if I hadn't found a pair of new Pirelli PZero Asymmetrico's for the same price on eBay.

A lot of the SCCA guys around here run the Kumho 700 or 710 or whatever as their DOT approved slicks and are competitive with the groups running Hoosiers.

Have to say I'm really happy with my Kumho 758 tires (165/80-15). I had my local tire shop order them - think they were around $45 each.

I've used the Kumho Solarus on a vintage sports car. I thought it had a design that looked ok on a 60s-70s car.

Kumho 195/65s on my TR4 for about the past 4 years - I'll get them again if they are available.

What size of tires do the rest of the Wedgies on here run? One of the local guys runs 205 in the front and 225 in the rear. I hate to admit it, but it looks really good and I have tire width envy in the rear. I really like the general UHP but they only come in the 205. It has a much better rating at tire rack than the Kuhmo and is just a few bucks more. The Kuhmo I can get in 205 and 225. Opinions?

...Kumos on my Carmine red '79 Spit mounted on Minitors. Cheap and I like 'em. Good tread wear code on tire.

Kumho are good tires, been around longer than most realize, popular with the race crowd too, and a good value.

Ive used Kumho Ecstas on my msuatng for 8 years. My husbands used Kumho Ecstas on his neon for 3 (he sold it) I have one Kumho on my Triumph. Its the only GOOD tire on that car. However I plan on buying 4 new ones, using the kumho as the spare.

165/80/15 on mine. I don't have anything to compare to but at $32 each 3 years ago less than the bicycle tires I just ordered.

All the TR8s stay with a 205 all around on 13-inch stock rims. The TR7 & TR8 rims at 5.5 width should not have anything mor than a 205. Anything wider the feel is wishy-washy on turns due to side wall tucking inward on the rim. If you go wider than 205 you either nip the inner fender lip in the rear or change the rim offset. The hot tire now is the Sumitomo HTR200 in 205/60/13 and also other sizes in 14, 15 & 16 inch rims.

I recently went to 15 inch rims to just be able to have a wider selecton of tire than the 14 inch Panasports I currently have on. I had Yokohamas on it prior in the 205 60 14 size. I had the front fender lips rolled early on.

Run them on my MGB and my Highlander, great tires. Will be putting them on the GT6 come summer, nice sticky tire.
Saw a Panther today on Marco Island that had Pirelli's on it, they looked really nice. I think they were P400's.

With the small amount of miles that actually go on the TR3 each year they will probably dry rot..crack...or time out before they wear out. Great tires VERY happy with the performance.
