Anybody heard from alan recently?

Alan left the forum.....at his own request, about two weeks ago now. I'm hoping that he'll choose to come back into the fold.

I was in contact with him about then, and he's actually the webmaster on the 6-pack forum, I saw him posting on there in the last day or so. Seems to be okay.

He felt we are too "jingoistic" here - I guess because some of us talk up the USA sometimes (sorry but it's my country and I lover her - no disrespect to other countries ever intended). He didn't like the discussions about "China" for one thing. I don't think we're overtly "jingoistic" here, but I may be biased...I try to treat everyone fairly, in fact in my humor forum rules I clearly state not to make jokes that target other countries and cultures (I don't check every single post but I think at least we try). I know that I'm guilty of mentioning that 99% of the hacking attempts on my server trace to China - just a statement of fact. Anyway, I've learned that no matter what you do or how you do it, someone in the world isn't going to like it = which is their choice of course. He was not banned - he just didn't like that aspect of the forum and left of his own accord.

<span style="font-style: italic">We don't want to fight but by Jingo if we do,
We've got the ships, we've got the men, we've got the money too,
We've fought the Bear before, and while we're Britons true,
The Russians shall not have Constantinople. </span>

Jingoistic, this forum? I think not. However, there are a few here, like everywhere, who may be. That's just life. If there is something offensive said, it is better to respond to the offender then just turn your back and walk away.

My intent is not to bash Alan, but I am sure he will not get a lot of help from the 6-pack forum whilst working on his 8.

I wish him well and will miss his input.

I agree with you Ray.

Pride in one's country is NOT jingoism
Pride in one's nation is NOT jingoism
Normal Patriotism in NOT jingoism

<span style="color: #990000">"extreme patriotism in the form of aggressive
foreign policy" --- Now THAT is jingoism</span>

Calling a fellow American a traitor because he
does not share your Party views IS a form of jingoism.
And Basil does an excellent job of keeping extreme
views of any type out of his forum.

Before I found the BCF, I also belonged to 6-Pack and got
almost zero help. I dropped my membership. The BCF was the
first car forum that did not treat me like a moron because
I know nothing about auto mechanics.

It really is a matter of individual perception. What might not raise an eyebrow for one can sometimes be "over the top" for another. As a non-American, perhaps Alan's perception is somewhat different. I know that mine probably is, it's just a matter of to what degree. However it's not my intention to find out.

My tuppenceworth.....

Boy, I apologies to Alan for my British humor and puns. I definitely was not serious and all in fun.

As for his Wedge,he was talking of selling it as he couldn't get the carb right.

Lastly, I hope he left the keys to the shed with someone. Doc?
