Very glad you and your Granddaughter are both mostly OK and best of luck with however the car turns out.
I too look in my mirror whenever I slow down, signal early, etc. Twice this past weekend I had folks lock up behind me....stop lights work, but only 2 small taillights against the sun....
Wow Terry that is horrible but I'm relieved you and your granddaughter did not get seriously injured. That is the most important part, the cars themselves as much as we are attached to them can be patched up or replaced with time.
Ditto to what everyone has said. Last week, a local guy was out with his granddaughter in Ford highboy roadster. Dude pulled out in front him on a four lane. Both were killed. Very sad, guy had just retired. Everyone be carefull out here.
This is a followup on the Grundy insurance. They were very fast with the appraisal, the car was totaled. The only issue I've had is with the tag office. They won't change a title to a salvage title without a letter from the insurance company stating that the car was totaled. At the same time, the insurance company won't issue a check without a salvage title. There was no deductible, and I had the option to buy back the car from the insurance co..
I have gotten lax about putting on my seat belt in the TR3, but after seeing the damage to the TR3 and thankful, minor injuries could have been much worse To you and Granddaughter. I am now putting on my seat belt all the time. There are to many people not paying attention. Glad that all will work out for you.
I'm sure some of you know how painful bruised ribs can be, but if I had to do it again i would install three-point seat belts in my TR3. I would find some way to make them work.

I have frequently thought about the safest way to ride/drive our little TR's. If you are strapped tightly with a 3-point and have a front end accident, you will be impaled by the steering shaft. If you wear a seatbelt at all and you have a roll over, you will lose your head. If you wear nothing and get flung out, you will be injured by the fall and may have the car roll over you.
Frankly, if you are driving a stock TR2/3, anything you do will help in one accident, but will kill you in another type accident. It would be a roll of the dice whether your effort would save you or kill you. The only truly "safe" thing to do is not to drive one at all. If you must, then a 3 point with a roll cage and a telescoping modern steering assembly would be the only semi-safe option.
I have decided to go with just a belt, but have the mental attitude that I am driving a motorcycle...with absolutely no protection. I must see and avoid the "other" driver. Of course, since I have even been rear-ended sitting idle at a stop light, even that is not always possible!
Around here, a red light means only one thing - someone will speed up and race through it. When my light turns green, I carefully look both ways before moving through the intersection. Cheap insurance. Don't assume anything. That woman parked at the driveway to your right will almost certainly pull out in front of you - at least that's what you've got to think. Riding motorcycles for years without an accident taught me that.
My Tr3 making its last run. If you haven't already done it, I would highly recommend that you purchase collector car insurance for your classic with an agreed value.
