Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of buying some kind of camera that could be plugged into my Mac, or our wireless network. The reason for this consideration is a bit complicated.

One of our cats seems to have become confused about the proper location for his toilet habits, and has started using the kitchen sink. It's an easy cleanup, but is very annoying and seems unsanitary even with all the cleanup stops pulled out. It's also difficult to explain. Not being a cat psychologist, I have no idea why this is going on.

Following the cat around all day or sitting beside the sink all day are not practical. It seems like I could get a small cam that could be mounted to give an overview of the kitchen, and that the image could be piped into my computers which are in various parts of the house. SInce I'm at home more often than not right now, I could keep an eye on the video and intercept the cat in the act, taking him to the proper place.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I've already been considering various electroshock devices, but am not interested in euthanasia.

Thank you,
-Bill

Bill.....they make mats with prongs on them so when the cat jumps up on the counter it gives them an uncomfortable surprise.....would seem easier for you, that way you don't have to keep an eye out or react in time...then the cam might just be fun to see the cats reaction!!! Good Luck!

You sound like you speak from experience LOL! Do you by chance remember any brand names or anything like that? At one point, I was considering cutting up on of those vinyl office chair mats, but didn't think its prongs would be effective. We used double sided tape at one point, but that stuff gets messy in a hurry.

Yeah, I'm sure the reaction would be worth it. I'm getting the feeling that one of the other cats is bothering him in some way.

I'll shop around based on your suggestion.

Thank you,

yea...I actually use to own a pet business in Omaha...they were called X-Mats and actually they pretty much looked just like the back of the carpet protectors you mentioned....they do work...another thing you can do is set up all kinds of noisy objects that won't break along the edge of counter...scares the living daylights out of em when they knock them down...but you too unfortunately. Go with the cutting back of carpet protector idea...it will work and after awhile you shouldn't need it anymore....but beware hardcore kitties may find an alternate location!!!
