Hello,

Just moved to the area and I'm looking for a LBC. Had my eye on a BGT that I'll be looking at again this weekend, but would like to try and find a GT6 to check out. Anyone know of a Triumph club/group located here?

Mahalos for your help.

Joel

Hi Joel,

There is the Triumph Travelers Sports Car Club in the SF Bay Area. A great excuse to drive your Triumph (when you get it) to meetings and such. Highway 17 can be a fun drive during non-commute hours, or there are some alternate back road routes through the countryside.

This group is probably the closest to you and one of the oldest Triumph groups in continuous existence. I was a member for a while, but dropped out since my car has been "under construction" for an eternity and most club functions revolve around group drives or similar events.

TTSCC has a website at https://www.triumphtravelers.org if you want additional info.

Lot's of Triumph of all types in the area. I'd like to get a late model GT6 too.... someday, when I've built my "dream garage" or maybe just moved into a warehouse!

Cheers!

Hi Alan,

Thanks for that link. I'm looking at all sorts of old British cars, but I really like the GT cars that Triumph and MG put out. Right now I have a good MGBGT candidate for my parking stall, and I would like to have a GT-6 to measure it against but they seem so few and far between.

Let me know if you know of any GT-6 drivers for sale.

mahalos,
Joel

I would strongly recommend heading out to the Monterey Historics...you'll see every Triumph, MG and other club in the area.

As for MG-GT and GT6, I would strongly suggest taking one element into consideration: if you're more than 5'10" go for the MGB-GT. The GT6, however beautiful, is rather cramped. The B-GT, on the other hand, can gobble-up a 6'7" giant with relative ease.

Also, instead of just buying a driver, spend $2000 more and buy a very, very nice one. With GTs and GT6s, you can buy a driver for $2500-$3000 or a show car for $4500-$6000 (depending on year and equipment.) To make a driver into a show car, you'll probably spend $5000-$10000, so buy the best one you can! (Applies to all collector cars, but the junior British cars in particular.)

I would spend that much if I had it, but I'm trying to find a steal as well. The BGT seems to be fitting the bill, and I am 6' in height, so I guess I should consider that.

mahalos,
Joel

I noticed a GT-6 for sale in the classifieds of www.vtr.org. The car is located in the Sacramento area as I recall. Looked like a decent car, but I don't know GT6s. Might be worth checking out if you don't mind the 3+ hour drive.

Joel -

I have recently heard of a TR3 field/barn find down in Atascadero. I will be seeing it July 3rd, let me know if you want a report.

gsalt...

Is there easy access to those cars? We're headed that way soon, too...

Are you taking your 3 for the drive?

Even as we speak...

Just got home from work and I'm checking my mail before I got out and fix a leaky oil pressure guage. I hope to be driving her this afternoon.

Unfortunately, I will be coming up from LA on that date from picking up my son and dropping my wife so there will be three of us in the truck (a Toyota TR-d, not my TR3).

The guy who has it is a friend of my Father in Law. I don't have contact information yet.

Hi gaslt57tr3,

I would love to hear a report on those TR3's. I've always wanted one of those too, but they're usually out of my price range.

The BGT I was looking at had a bit more rust in areas that seem structurally significant. Plus, I'm no bodywork guru and don't have the cash to pay for it...so I'm still looking.

Sacramento is a bit of a drive for me right now. I just moved here and I'm still in the "getting settled in" phase. Anyway, I'm sure that a GT-6 or some other cool little LBC will be for sale at the Historics.

I am not a Morris Garage person, but isn't the BGT a unibody construction or does it have a frame like the GT6?
