Any tips for fixing a bent boot lid

Any body have an tips for fixing the dreaded tweaked boot lid. You know the one you get when the boot prop bends the lid.

I just had my 79 LE painted (looks great by the way) and I could swear that the boot lid fit nice and flush before the paint job. Now I get it back and the boot lid is bent a bit and doesn't fit flush anymore on the side where the prop is.

Any tips for fixing this? Without major surgery!

Thanks

My neighbor bent my Midget boot lid slightly just a few days ago. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif
I put a piece of wood in the opening to keep the lid slightly open and simply pushed down where it protruded until it fit correctly again. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Five minutes massaging is all it took.

With fresh paint it is easy to match color. It may be worth your while to source another boot lid. They are cheap and plentiful. I suppose you may as well get a buddy and each grab one side of the lid, and tweak it straight again. Can't make it any worse!

The lid on my 78 was bent when I bought it. I placed two pieces of wood strategically fore and aft of the bend, then leaned on the lid over the bend point. It did not bring it back completely but it really helped.

Mickey Richaud sent be a spare he had available. I am in the process of finishing off the little dents it had and repainting, as of now.

(Thanks again, Mickey. The biggest problem I have had with the lid was filling the extra luggage rack holes. Had a friend mig them for me, finally.)

Glad it worked out for you, Guinn. Post a picture when you finish it.

Got the gas struts from Rick Ingram and have them temporarily on the old lid. Work great! Also work great on the hood and give me more room to work on stuff near the firewall.
