Those look very similar to what we have in our master bath (except gold color). Pretty sure ours are Delta also. So far we've never had the kind of weird issues your having (knock on wood).
 
I s'pose talking with 'em wouldn't hurt. Likely, as I stated before, it can't be coincidence that three different valves would have the same failure. They likely are aware of the problem and have some sort of remediation. It still involves Tom being Delta's unpaid QC tech though.
 
My guess is over the last 50 years they have changed the metal of the faucet. The new valves are engineered for the new metal and it's expansion rate to heat. The old faucet expands at a different rate (slower).
