Any members in Calgary or know anyone in Calgary?

Curious to know if anyone here is from Calgary or has connections in Calgary. According to it's Heritage Certificate, my Jag was delivered to Cooke Motors in Calgary late June of 1956. An internet search shows there is a Cooke Motors still listed there. I sent an email but no response yet. I doubt it is the same but may be related. I am hoping someone local may know more, have heard of the dealership, etc.

Peter...Sherlock is in Calgary

Peter;

I have a neighbor whose daughter lives and works in Calgary.
If you need, I'll send her a note.

Ask on the Spridget boards - Sherlock for sure and I think someone else, otherwise let me know I have friends there

Yeah... Cooke Motors existed until about the 1990's I think? On the corner of Centre Street & 13 Ave NW, and is now home to a strip mall with a coffee shop and other stores... Sorry, more than you needed to know?

Cooke Motors was right around the corner from my church, when I was younger and *ahem* used to cut out from the service the odd time I'd wander over there with a friend to see if there was anything interesting in the lot, the neatest car I ever saw in their storage lot was a 1960's Maserati Quattroporte sedan... Again, more than you needed to know?

Yes, the dealer existed in the past but is no longer, and I believe handled a number of different brands over the years, they were the last Calgary dealer to sell Alfa Romeo's, and even sold the Russian Lada's for a short time from what I've heard...

What exactly did you want to know about the dealership?

Thanks for the info, Sherlock!

I was hoping knowing the odds were against me that the dealer was still around and that there MIGHT be records somewhere. Was a longshot I know. A bit of a treasure hunt, so to speak. Ah well, a guy can hope! The Heritage Certificate for my Jag lists Cooke Motors as the main distributor and mentions a Mr. F. Woodward. Someone on another forum mentioned that there was a Woodward's department store chain and could Mr F. Woodward have been related. All interesting tidbits, just trying to see if they lead anywhere.

An internet search brought up this Cooke Motors in Calgary:

www.cookeauto.com

Any chance it is a son or relative?

If you have any ideas on how to dig for more info or clues, let me know.

Thanks again!

That company has no direct relationship to the Cooke Motors you're thinking of... I wouldn't be surprised if Wayne is a relative of the family associated with Cooke Motors...

I don't think Mr. F. Woodward has anything to do with the department store, likely just happens to have the same name.

A longshot? You might want to contact the local sports car club, some of those people might know how to track down some information, I suspect some of the members are long-time Calgarians who may or may not know more... https://www.vsccc.ca

I'm just looking around for a photo of Cooke Motors, can't find one upon brief search...
