Any Interesting Summer Road Trips Planned?

I don't know how "interesting" it will be, but in mid-July I fly to Huntsville, AL on business and will be picking up a 2007 Santa Fe, which I will be driving back to New Mexico after about a week of meetings. Rather than the usual US72 to Memphis, then I-40 west to home, I hope to swing through Tupalo, MS to see Elvis' home town ("Thank you ver-much"), then over to Hot Springs, AK to visit a former Air Force boss (from way back) who retired there and whom I haven't seen in about 20 years. Then I'll probably head up to Ft Smith and pick up I-40 for teh rest of the trip home.

Torque enough to pull from 75 to 100 without shifting out of 5th! No black smoke out of rear either....if it does make it to the US, they'll screw it up & make it an automatic.

That's because no-one can drive stick here. The wife is a case in point - we're looking for a slushbox to replace the bug because there is an incline where the driveway meets the road.

She's the one that plans her route to avoid lights on hills...

Basil - when you're in Tupelo, you've gotta stop by the Tupelo Auto Museum....an absolute gotta visit!

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif Now, now, now - some of us women folk can drive standard and quite well, thank you. No we don't have to ride the clutch on a hill.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

It wasn't women I was commenting on - it was the lamentable standard of driving standard here. (groan).

Just saw this thread resurface and thought I'd add my bit! Wife and I are heading out to Denver for the first two weeks of August in our new Pontiac G6 to visit our #1 son stationed at Buckley AFB. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Our family vacation this year is in Estes Park. We have googled every junk yard between LR and Denver, CO. We plan to turn a one day trip into a three day excursion into auto junk yards west with our boys.
