Any Ideas

I've run into that attitude in two marque clubs I have and do belong to.
Both ended up printing corrections, or appendixes, as I would not let go and had proof.

One, former marque club, author wrote the definitive book on 49-51 Fords, often referred to as "The Bible".
In it he stated that all Customs had the silver/gray painted dash and side window surrounds, and all Deluxes had sand-coloured paint.
I had a Deluxe, in silver/gray paint without the drilled holes in the glovebox door and dash for the Custom chrome ends.

Seems he was only "familiar" with east coast production....mine being Richmond, California. His response initially was similar to yours, "We wrote the definitive book on the subject, and stand behind it 100%."

You run into attitudes like that, push into it, if they still ignore it, get the data out to all you can (with proof) and walk away.

Research is only as good as far as it goes. When the "author" decides he has proved his case, the research stops, even though the next page would have given him the answer.

Current marque club, they apparently only looked as far as North American imports, ignoring the vast numbers that were not.
That, too, is fixed now.

Just like your washing machine has a very large heavy piece of either iron or concrete surrounding the access hole, this special Triumph part is to reduce vibrations (as if the car really needed that). From the placement of the device one would suspect they tried to reduce... rear transmission vibration... or propeller shaft vibration?? Either way, it didn't work well enough to notice a difference when it's removed.

My understanding is that the weight (and the rubber bush inside it) was added to try to suppress a gearshift buzz at certain speeds. There were several other modifications for the same reason (like the strap from mount to top cover) and at least one recommended field change; all for the same reason.

PS Probably not all cars would exhibit the buzz even without those changes. But it seems to have been a common complaint when the cars were new.

Randall, that's what I understand too. In my case I get a buzz, rattle or noise at about 3000rpm when loaded. My friend thinks it's engine ping but octane booster didn't make any difference even with 93 octane fuel. So I think it's that buzz that is suppose to be dampened by that weight. Doesn't seem to work!

Maybe I could paint it real nice and use it as a Christmas tree ornament.

Keith,

What kind of tree do you have that would hold it??

The only problem I have Scott is that I need one more.
