"ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

read it again, doesn't say the car is antique just the condition which may mean

1. looks like it hasn't been run in 100 years

2. smells like....

3. chicago rusted like it has for 100 years.

If you were born in the nineties, the '82 might seem like an antique. If you were born in the fifties, not so much.

That logic makes most of us antiques :jester:

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

My niece (who is 9) made my brother-in-law feel really old when she commented on that "really old" car she saw. It was an 80s something-or-other. To her, that's ancient.

Besides, 1982 cars qualify for classic shows now, being over 25 years old.

Still doesn't make me want one.

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

Just keep in mind, what our kids call history, we call current events.
Half the 20th century was current events for me. OH!!!! I'm old, sorry antique!

And we listened to, The Lone Ranger, Boston Blacky, The squeaking Door, etc, etc! Yes youngsters, TV wasn't around before WW II for the general public! We read a lot, went on picnics AND had respect for our parents and teachers. Hey Amos, where you at? :jester:

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

"Oh, 'bout a week back." :smirk:

Yep! 77 WABC "Good Guys" in the NY/metro area.

My MGB has a stock, BMC, AM-only radio.
Lots of folks find it amusing.

This antique talk reminds me of the '56 MGA that was my first car. Seems like a rare classic these days.........but that was in '67.
It was more like just buying a first-generation Miata today.

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

Yeah - and remember back in the mid-sixties when we thought anything older than a '62 or '63 was considered passe'?

In the summer of '68, I was headed to LSU for my first year. Needed a car, and Dad gave me my choice between a '62 Corvair Monza and a '59 Ford Custom four door sedan, from a friend he knew.

Chose the Corvair, of course. Couldn't see myself in Barney Fife's car!

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

 I recall that photo, Nial.

'68 saw me as a college freshman, got the MGB in '69. Prior to that it was a '61 Falcon with the straight six and three onna tree.

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

You blokes are old!? I did not have the "pleasure" of owning a Corvair. My first motor was an MGB at the ripe age of 14-15. Still have the MG 30 years on.
Do not like to see cement blocks used for vehicle support, but guess that you had to make do with what was handy?

Mine was a pleasure - love to have it back, but it went away long ago. Dad paid $295 for it, and I drove it for a couple of years before the transmission went out. Made several trips from Baton Rouge to New Orleans; was the car I picked Janet up in for our first date on Mardi Gras, 1969.

I agree they are really old! I was not a college freshman until '69.
I was driving a '64 chevelle with a 6 and a 3 on the tree.
That was after the 61 falcon died while I was in high school.

Re: "ANTIQUE"???!!!!!

Y'all really are old! I was a college freshman in '90 -- and didn't have a car.

My first car was a 1990 Ford Escort station wagon when I graduated in '94; it had been my mom's car. At least it was a 5-speed.
