Antique or Collector Car Plates

I'm sure I'm late to this party but............I just found out that if I put antique/collector plates on my TR6, it changes the property tax from an assessed rate to a flat $500. So you could have an "agreed to" value of...say....$15,000 with your insurance company yet for property tax purposes, it's assessed at $500. My tax bill will now be $11! I do live in Connecticut which is known for it's taxes but is it similar for other states?

Don't even try for "TR6". Bill (Kondanja) scooped that number in the Antique section last year.

DRAT....I know....I got a picture of his plate for my site.

But I found 6 good ones that DMV says are available. SO I'm bringing my application up to them tomorrow.

Are you sure that there are NO driving restrictions, like in MA?

When I was a policeman in CT a gazilion years ago there were rather strict limitations on the use of the antique plates. The laws may have changed but it is worth a call to the state about it.

I also have the antique plates on my 80 F-100 and the only restriction is that they vehicle has to be at least 20 years old.
My friend at work has an 88 Nissan Pathfinder, 86 Camry and several MGB's and pays less than $80 a year in taxes.
He has also made up labels that say "British" or "Japanese" that fit directly over the "American" part of the Early American text.

I dont believe there were and restriction when I got this plate from the state. Just the age of the car.

The Insurence company was the only one's that asked about driving habits.


The State agent told me a guy had my plate for 22 years prior to giving it up.
The same month he returned it, I made the request & to my suprize it was avalible...

You gotta love the DMV! I went down there today to submit the form for converting to "Early American" plates along with my 6 vanity plate desires. Well, it turns out that I can't do this in just one step. It's a 2 step process! First I have to get the generic "Early American" plate and then I can submit my vanity plate suggestions. So we have twice as many trips to waste gas on and the DMV gets to do twice the paperwork and associated processing. Go figure!

Don.... I can't find that forum thread, either here or in 6-Pack. I did it to quiet the sound of gas peeing back into the tank via the TBI return line....tinkle tinkle tinkle. Something like 50% of the gas that gets pumped to the regulator ends up getting returned to the tank.
