TR6 Answer to TR6 Rotor problems...and they're RED!!

Jeff from Advanced Distributors has been very disappointed in the quality of rotors and caps as of late, so he is making some of his own. These are two of the first, one of which will be hitting the road as soon as the weather clears.

I have NO FINANCIAL INTEREST, but want these problem parts eliminated and replaced with good parts like these.

New Advanced Rotors

Ok, I know this is going to get asked, so here's the deal.
1. The rotor contacts are thermally bonded so there is no rivet that will internally short to the shaft or come loose.
2. This particular red resin has a thermal expansion rate that's about 1/10th of the typical black plastic rotor. That means they fit tight to the shaft even when hot, and the expansion won't make the rivet fall out (again, no rivet!).
3. The fit to the shaft is literally perfect. Any tighter and it would be a problem fitting them and any looser it would be like the made in Italy version which can rotate slightly on the shaft.
4. There's no carbon content in the red plastic as there is in black. That means these rotors will be far less likely to lend themselves to a misfire. The composition has zero components that convey electricity, with the exception of the obvious solid brass contact.
5. The contact has an exaggerated rounded trailing edge which can help eliminate misfires caused by phasing issues, fairly common in the TR6 distributor.

I don't mean this to be a sales pitch, just the improvements made over the "readily available" stuff. If you're tired of rotors failing, here's the solution (many, many months in the making.)

Nice job Jeff. I would buy a gross but don't think they'll fit in the Unilite Mallory.

I have a couple of Jeff's rotors for the Spitfire; just waiting for summer to come again. Also, he has good quality rotors for the TR7's distributor as well. Thanks Jeff!

Jeff, after visiting your web site I have an unrelated question. What size pulley is the 1275 timing pointer kit scale designed for? I'm curious if it would fit the harmonic balancer on the Mini. Early Minis have the timing marks on the flywheel and you have to remove a cover and use a mirror to see them. I made a pointer and punch marks on my front pulley but your kit would sure be nicer looking if it fits the harmonic balancer OD.

Who else but Jeff would step up and do this!! It follows his well established and deserved reputation of providing the best service possible.

Hopefully more vendors will follow this leader!

Thanks Jeff!

Got my new rotors ordered, did not want to wait.

Doug, you had to go ask me a difficult question like that. Hmm... If I recall, the 1275 pulley is almost exactly 5" in diameter. The problem is that I don't have one here to measure. If someone wanted to send me a Mini cover and pulley, I'd work it out and develop a kit specifically for it! Of course that person gets a free kit too...

Some Minis like mine (mainly 1275s) have a harmonic balancer with a large flat surface that would be good for a scale/tape. I'll measure mine this weekend and let you know its diameter.

Re: Answer to TR6 Rotor problems...and they're RED

Looks good and at only $15 for a set of two how can you go wrong? I ordered a set for my car. And they match the car red rotors for a red car!

Re: Answer to TR6 Rotor problems...and they're RED

But there will be more red parts coming soon..........films at 11

Re: Answer to TR6 Rotor problems...and they're RED

Jeff, I looked (or tried to look) at the front pulley/harmonic-balancer on my Mini today. I won't be able to get a diameter measurement or photograph of the installed part. There simply isn't room. As a minimum I'd have to pull the alternator to get an accurate measurement and I still doubt that would allow a clear picture. However, a rough (twisted tape measure across the front of the pulley) estimate would be 5-3/4" diameter on the surface where the timing scale would be applied to a Mini's balancer. I'll see if I can't find someone who can provide a good photograph and an accurate measurement for you.

Would these rotors fit the stock GT-6 distributor as well?

My GT6 uses a Delco distributor... but if you have a 25 or 45 series Lucas distributor I would think they should fit.

No, these rotors don't fit Delco distributors - strictly the 22D, 23D, 25D, and older miscellaneous 4 and 6 cylinder vehicles including a few various tractors, etc...
They DO NOT fit the 45D distributors either. Those take a different specific rotor that I have available in blue.

Jeff, what are you doing typing. you are supposed to be out in the shop rebuilding that Z car distributor that Brad Burgess said you found after UPS broke the first one. My buddy is waiting for it, and he gets very, very antsy...

Hope you had a good Bird day. And hope the rest of the holiday season is enjoyable.
Aloha

Gotta take a break every now and then, right? I'm in the process of running 3 dozen 45D distributors through the parts washer and polishing machine.

I thought the Z dizzy problem was just a lack of parts. He sent a partial core so I recurved it and sent it back, so he can steal the remaining necessary odd parts from the dizzy in the car. Goofy situation, but while I work on Z-car stuff, I don't have any inventory to rob parts from.
Aloha!!!

Thanks for the update, been getting a different story from him. Sadly, it seems a confrontation is coming...
