Another year!

Tomorrow my TR3 will be 54 years old. Gosh, in 11 more years it will probably end up like this old fart; either on social security and medicare or in the scrap yard.

Hmmm, at this rate, I think my TR3 is going to outlast me....

Happy New Year to all, and a tip o' the hat to the Great Pumpkin, Basil!

Terry, let's hope it's not the scrap yard...........for either of you.

Happy New Year to All!!

Terry,

Secret is this: keeping the TR3 going keeps us young. No scrap yards for either. I'm almost 20 years older than my 58 TR3, but when I'm in the cockpit and "sailing" down the road (admittedly at conservative 45 mph max.), I'm 19 again as I was when I first started driving these cars.

Ed:

I have the same feeling when I'm driving the TR3 until I realize that at some point I'm going to have to get out of the car. My body isn't on the same track as my mine. These last couple of years have been pretty rough. So much for the golden years!

Terry,

Yes, indeed, these are no longer teenage bodies trying to get in under that large steering wheel.... but what fun once that is accomplished!

Getting in and out, for me, sure beats trying to lean over the engine compartment for any length of time.

We'll just have to resolve to spend more time IN these cars than trying to get in and out of them. Where's a good drive-in diner with car hops on roller skates when you need one? Remember the trays with milk shakes and burgers attached to the front windshield.... Hmmmm... But perhaps that's for some other thread....

Ed,

Wright's Dairy-Rite here in Staunton although no roller skates and the trays rotate out now instead of attaching to the window, but there's still car-side service!

That's awesome. 1950's vintage diner with old style color washed photo of the place...very traditional...except for the bright yellow star burst proclaiming "Free Internet"!

I love the old 50's diners. I will make it priority to get out more as 2012 ages along with us.

Happy New Year folks.....

Scott,

Great... I thought that Wright's Dairy-Rite had closed. I'm driving up first chance I get.

Northern California was treated to a beautiful Sunny New Years day. We celebrated by pulling together 3 of the local side screens and having a nice hour and half ride thru the valley and vineyards. Great way to start the new year. Sometimes wish this body ran as well as the 1960 "Redhead" ! Gil NoCal

The Ham Cheeseburger was always my favorite when my wife and I use to frequent there more often!

How about drive-in's? Do you go to Hull's?

Hull's Drive-in

We try to go there at least once a year and this summer we went with my son and his girlfriend. We were in the Thunderbird and they were in the Miata - tops down of course! Always loved drive-in's growing up and especially once I got the TR4A. There were a lot more operating around here then (4) although we always went to Skyline in Waynesboro.

I hate you. It was 17 deg F when I got up this AM. :frown:

I wont see my cars until April......

Scott,

Strange to say, I've never been to Hull's Drive-in (For those of you who don't know this place, Hull's is a real drive-in theater here that has been taken over by a nonprofit organiztion and has been a great success.)

But when I was a kid in Tucson, AZ, we went to drive-ins amost every weekend. Left the top up on the '58 TR3 I had back then, however, because of nosey neighbors parked alongside (if you get my drift)! And this was followed by cruisin', drive-ins for burgers, S&W Rootbeer, and trips up into the foothills. Top down for all that. Nice thing about Tucson: you can drive these cars (top down) practically year-round.

Ed,

I totally agree. Driving my 3B is the most fun I've ever had among the many former sports cars I've owned which included a Healey 100, Jaguar 150 Roadster, Porsche 356 and a TR-6. This is the one car I will always keep. No other car I've owned can compare with the 3B for pure driving enjoyment.

I take her out every weekend as long as the roads are dry and rendezvous with friends who have old MGs, TR-4s and Fiats. We never put the tops or side curtains on. Any car with roll up windows is prohibited from putting them up.

Happy New Year from Fairfax.

Paul,

You've got the spirit! I drive mine down here in the Valley of Virginia at all times except when it is raining or when the roads are covered with snow, ice, or salt. I have to admit, however, that I put the top up when it is really cold. Actually, I find that closed up in that cockpit can be pretty enjoyable.

Happy New Year from Rockbridge County.

BTW, on another subject for those who may be following the nostalga of this thread. Yesterday I went to a New Year's Day Hunt Breakfast (something the local fox hunters put on) and encountered a fellow I had met before but did not realize that when he was a young man he worked as a Triumph engine designer and test driver. We talked TR3s for an hour!
