My name is Gil and I am new to this Forum.
I live in Northern California...about 100 miles North of SF.
I own a 1960 TR3A that I purchased from the original owner
in 2000...and started on a full restoration then.
The car was originally Signal Red...and I repainted it the same. The color has gotten me a number of negative comments at British Car Shows....down to the point that this past year when they came to my car one judge said to another...
"I could never vote for a RED TR3...there are just too many
of them!" Well...I take my build cert to show it is a
"natural red head!"
The car is a overdrive car with the 4:11 gears.
I have learned a lot reading the forum...and look forward to being part of this resource!

Welcome, Gil - good to have you aboard!

That judge's comment is why many of us don't bother to put a lot of stock in their "opinions"... and we all have them, don't we?

He was definitely out of line, especially since yours was born that way!

Hi Gil,

"Welcome" to the wonderful world of "LBCs" on the "BCF":

Its really quite incredible that some "Judges" can be soo prejudice.

When you have an Orig. car, paint etc as per a Hert. Cert; There should`nt be any question or silly comments like you`ve rec`d. There should only be "Praise" for keeping the car as Orig. as possible.

I can only guess the "Judges" were "Envious" of your car!

Let us take a look at your car & Post a bunch of pics.

Best Wishes at the next Car Show.

Why not copy the comments your going to rec. here & place them in your windshield for the "Judges" to get some education on "Judging"!!

Regards,

Russ

Hi, and welcome to the Forum! Sorry about the bad luck with the judges, you never know what's going to happen at those shows. Post some pics of your car for us!

Welcome, Gil!

Post some pix in th' Triumph forum, we'll all drool over a good resto no matter WHAT colour it is!

Gil - welcome to the bunch!

I envy you, finding that beautiful TR3 from the original owner. Oh that we should all have that luck!

And like the other guys, I'm sorry you had the "poor judge" experience. Judging ain't easy, but sometimes the judge can be clueless as to what he/she is really supposed to be looking at/for. It can be an ego thing I'm afraid.

At least for my purposes (getting my own TR to "a 50 year old one owner car" condition), just driving it is the best reward.

Good to have you with us.
Tom

Hi Gil. Welcome. Next time a judge says something like that, ask him from which body part his thought processes originate from and unless he drops his pants ,tell him he's lieing and his arms are to short to box with God.You're not going to win anyway but do this in front of a crowd and he'll learn proper car show manners. You'll find it something severely lacking in todays car show world. The bigger the expert, the less they will ever learn. Good luck with your car and enjoy!

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

Hey Gil,

Welcome from another newbie, former Northern CA TR guy. I bought my TR6 in Sacramento. :cooler:

My TR6 was signal red from the factory but the guy I bought it from painted it yellow as he already had a red TR6. Funnily enough, there have been times in the past that out of 20+ cars on a rally, I have had the only "non-red" car in the group!

I have always struggled with what color to repaint it when I get to that stage. I personally like a TR6 in BRG, but it always seemed almost sacrilegious to paint an original red sports car in any other color but red. Anybody know what I mean?

But then, who cares. It can always be repainted again. I had a guy pull up next to me at a red light in Modesto CA one time and start talking to me about my car. Once he found out it was a 69 model he started pointing out all that was incorrect about it, like the 1973 color, the 1970 seats and wheels, etc. The guy really knew his TR6's, but what a jerk.

I just drove away.

Well, the definition of "Expert" is as follows:

"X" is an unknown quantity, and "spurt" is a drip under pressure...... :jester:

I've heard it put another, similar way: Ex-pert = Ex-Spurt = "A former Drip Under Pressure"
