TR2/3/3A Another TR3 barn find

Got a call from one of my customers that knows I like Triumphs. He took me to a barn with what he thought was a 1960 TR3A. However it was a slant back with out raised hinges. TS46036. So the year is suspect and maybe that is what is on the title but I explained to him that 1960 could be the year it was titled. Last time it ran was 1994 and comes with a spare engine, trany and a metal hard top. Could not get under the car for inspection but seems solid and all is there. He was looking for a value as his friend was asking $8500.

I forgot my camera and it's an hour and a half from my house. So the next time I'm working up there (Sept 20th) I'll get some good pics. I may be interested in it or I'm always getting requests form customers for cars. I would like a guesstimate on the year.

TS46036 would have been completed in 1959; but as you note could easily have been sold as a 1960 model.

8500 for a "barn find"?

There are two ways to go-- spend 15k on one already fixed up, or buy one for next to nothing and put 15 k into it. What you shouldn't do (and, btw what I did) is spend 8 to 10k on a beater, and then another 15k! But, it was the first LBC I'd ever driven.

My advice: if it's been sitting in a barn for a few years, wait for a one at a barn-find price to come along or talk him down to 2k! A big Healy or E-Type, yes, but not a TR-3A... Jim
