After a long day of running everywhere between Altoona and Home yesterday with my girlfriend and her 2 year old niece, I was ready to just relax for the night and watch a movie. Alicia (the gf) had to go to work in Creekside about 15 min from my house at 11pm so I figured I'd watch "Leathal Weapon" after she left at about 10:40. Not 5 min later I have a phone call from her that was almost impossible to understand because she was crying so hard. The only parts I could understand were "slid off", "stuck", and "tracks"... A quick guess of which road she had taken to work led to me running to my garage and grabbing my tow chain and leaving home fast. Found her on Chambersville Road... She had slid on some loose grit and had ended up 35 feet off the road stuck on the railroad track. My 15' chain was not going to work and I was pretty certain that even if it did, my Impala would not have the grip or power to move her borrowed Taurus. Woke up my mechanic and asked his assistance and started checking the car for damage. ...I hear the train... Called 911 to try to get the train stopped. Got the train stopped about 2 miles away (right next to my house in fact). Easy job getting the car out with a truck and a bigger chain with no damage to the car. Made a call to 911 dispatch to inform them that we were clear of the crossing when a railroad maintainer showed up to check for damage blocking my car in. All's well but it would have been nice if it wasn't raining or dark or a train wasn't involved and I didn't have to work today... ...sigh...
