got 10 right. Not bad for not being in the USA, huh?

I got 20 of the questions correct. I do take issue with several of the questions being part of a "common knoledge" test though.

My comments on the following questions aside, a couple of the legitamate "common knoledge" questions did get me good.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label?<hr></blockquote>

The question assumes that everyone eats Campbell's soup, so would come in contact with the cans regularly.
I havn't eaten Campbell's soup since I was a child. Nore Do I pay attention to thier advertising or even give thier products a glance on the store shelves. Perhapse I'm alone in that, but I suspect I'm not.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>5. What two letters don't appear on the telephone dial? (No cheating!)<hr></blockquote>

Most people have not owned or used a rotory dial phone in more than 20 years. Younger people may not have used one in thier entire lives.
All 5 of the touch tone and cell phones I own have all 26 letters of the alphabet on them.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>8. How many matches are in a standard pack?<hr></blockquote>

I guess you are talking about those folding packs with the matches that you pull out of the middle.
As a lifetime non smoker, I have never had occasion to use matches that come in packs more than a handfull of times. I do keep matches around, I purchase them at the grocery store where they sell the small wooden matches in boxes of 50, or the large wooden matches in boxes of 100.
The matches that come in a pack are generally sold, or logoed ones given away, where cigarets are sold, or commonly smoked.
I make a habit of not hanging around where cigaretes are smoked in quantity. I'm sure I'm not alone in that one.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>11. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?<hr></blockquote>

I got this question correct, but the "correct" answer for this one would be different for someone in the southern hemisphere.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>13. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?<hr></blockquote>

Another one where more modern technology has been around long enough, and is pervasive enough, that this would pass from "common knowledge". It would make a good trivia question though.
wink.gif

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>15. On a NY license plate, is New York on the top or bottom??<hr></blockquote>

Why would this be in a "common knowledge" test?
Most people have never lived in, or even been to New York.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>16. Which way do fans rotate?<hr></blockquote>

I got this one correct, but as someone who works in the HVAC industry, I know that its common for them to spin CCW also. CW rotation is more common though.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>20. How many lug nuts are on a standard car wheel?<hr></blockquote>

I got this one correct, but its almost a trick question when posted on a LBC forum. All but 2 cars I have owned had 4 lug nuts per wheel, or had knockoff wire wheels.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>23. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package?<hr></blockquote>

I got this one correct because I remember when I was a kid that they came 8 to a pack, but hot dogs came 10 to a pack.
Being both single, and to lazy to cook most of the time, I eat quite a few hot dogs. The packs of buns I buy have 10 in them. Its been quite a few years since I remember seeing 8 in a pack.

I got 19 out of 29 correct.

The only questions that I really take issue with are #4 (5 out of 6), #5, & #13. I haven’t had a bowl of soup, owned a rotary phone or a TV with UHF in decades. The rest I just flat missed.

So I'm in agreement with Mark on this one. Not sure some of these could truly be considered "Common Knowledge", as several of these are a little dated.

<blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><hr>11. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?
11. Counter (north of the equator) <hr></blockquote>

The correct answer is that there is no single answer. Water will drain CW, CCW or straight anywhere on the planet.

It is a common misconception that the coriolis effect, which causes storms to circulate CW in the northern hemisphere and CCW in the southern, can be observed in toilets, sinks and bathtubs. This is simply not true.

The scale of the coriolis acceleration is far too small to be observable under normal conditions. The shape of the container and drain, direction of any flow entering the container or any disturbance of the water itself will completely dominate the water's behavior.

The Renault LeCar had only 3 lug nuts, which I thought was a very poor design, since losing a lug nut might be disastrous.

Jerri once had a little red LeCar that she used to run around in when Shannon was in the 4th & 5th grade....she loved it...Shannon loved to stand up when that big canvas sun roof was folded back!

Well I got 23 right. The six I missed are as folows; 4. I never payed any attention to cambells soup cans just remeber they were red and white, 8. never bothered to get a book of matches and count them, 12. guess I have never payed much attention to a no smoking sign I had the diagonal going the other way, 15. have never been to new york state so why should I know that?, 22. never bothered to memorize the seven dwarfs names as I was 7 last time I saw the movie, 29. last time I checked a merry go round was man powered so it can go either way and a carousel is powered and it does go counter. Anyway think I did pretty good.

Cheers,

I think I'm the only one who got the matches question right-twenty matches because there are twenty cigs in a pack. One match per smoke, in theory. I missed the campbell's question, but what constitutes a "classic" Campbell's logo? I dug out a can after taking the quiz and saw no yellow....am I too young? I also missed the cards one (most of you don't smoke....I don't play cards), and the FM dial thing. Also UHF. I got twenty right in all.

21 right, 5 wrong. Th eonly wrong answer I feel bad (as in stupid) about was "who's picture is on a dime" What was I thinking! I said "Eisenhower!" LOL! I missed the lowest number on the FM dial also, but just barely. It was 88, but I said 89!

There are no lug nuts on a Standard wheel. They're all on the wheel studs. Besides all Standards had 4 lug hubs, except my tractor (built by the Standard Motor Company of Coventry) which has 10.
