Another soft top question - zip out rear window?

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Jack, I had to sit here wondering WTH you were trying to say for a minute

Finally got it when I looked up a few posts.

Remember it's a few hours earlier where I live...
(& I was up with a sick child half the night)

Yes - I guess driving it does give it some stress. It seemed kind of like a taut drum skin - I didn't try thumping it tho... Might make an interesting sound.

Sorry about the sick child. Yep stress, speed sucks the top up. Shoot at 140 you would prob have it just riped off, I did.

Over time the top will stretch in any case, just age. Think about your face, hehe.

By the way it sounds like you have the tension about right.

Thanks Jack, weird thing about the kid. They had a "fun day" for his class yesterday & part of it involved making fake snowballs out of crumpled paper and then having a snowball fight. He got hit in the eye, now we have to take him to the doctor to see what the damage is. Great "fun day" huh?

Yeah - the top is tight, but it's also been pretty cold here - below 50F is the norm for this time of year, getting down near freezing at night. I think it will relax a bit when it warms up.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Well today at lunch I decided to see just what all the hubub was about with these fancy schmancy zip out windows & such...

So I unzipped the window, the zipper operated very easily.
I'm not quite sure what to do with the window when it's unzipped - just let if flop down? wrap it up in shammie?

So far, a very enjoyable experience.
I see why the window itself isn't tensioned like the rest of the top. The "frame" seems to take the tension so the window itself is just a tad bit loose. No tension or stress on the window helps it to unzip & zip up easily.

I'll see if I can get some pics of it up this evening, if all goes well with the alternator replacement. Must remember to get a new light bulb too!
