Another soft top question - zip out rear window?

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

They replied, the top does come with all fasteners.
They are out of stock so there will be a 2 week delay :frown:

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Did we ever find out if a non zip rear window can be modified to zip?

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

I received my new top from Prestige today!!!

I got an email with tracking info yesterday and today the top was sitting at the post office waiting for me to pick it up!

Wahoo!!

It's very nice, the windows are so clear - I guess I didn't know what I was missing before. The zipper is very nice - professionally done and seems to be very well made.

It's going to be great getting this on the car!

So - what do I get to treat a brand new vinyl top?
Should I treat a brand new top?

RAGGTOPP products are tested and approved by Haartz, who make the material for Robbins & other top manufacturers. The link above has cleaner & protectant kits for either vinyl or cloth tops. It's what I've ordered, to use on my new cloth top. I'll be putting on protectant after installation. FWIW... YMMV.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

That looks pretty good - but I was hoping there would be something I could buy at my local auto parts supply.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Many autoparts store sell Raggtop

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Always used armorall. No problems with that.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

The armor all formula has undergone many changes, but I would not use it on the top if for no other reason than it will leave a residue on your paint when it rains. There are other reasons that I avoid it, but they are based on past experiences with older formulas.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

:iagree: I would agree with Trevor on that!

each reformulation of Armor-All indicates a problem they have had with the product over the years! Great for certain applications!

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Top arrived today. Trial fit tomorrow as its half past Beer time now. Very good looking. Just hope its the right one. Zip Down window looks cool.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Think that must have been the old stuff. No probs here. Use a lot of it on my truck. Heck on everything that is vinyl except seats, too slick.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

BillM & I installed my new top today.
I'm so glad & grateful for the help, it would have been murder trying to do this by myself, especially since I'd never done it before.

It was a pretty cold day here in NW Wa state, we also tried another alternator that Bill had on hand and then put my old one back in. We both looked for an external regulator and neither of us could find one. Looking at the alternator we decided that the bump in the back was where the internal regulator lives.

Bill loaned me a voltage gauge that plugs into the lighter, it showed that my alt never goes above 14.7 VDC while driving.
When I come to a stop & it idles the voltage drops to a bit under 13.

Then we started on the top.
Drilling out all the old rivets, marking with the chalk, stretching as much as possible and fastening it on.
Prestige pre cuts the holes for the tenax fasteners but doesn't install them as they could damage the top during shipment.

We found some rust under the back rubber seal so we wire wheeled it and sprayed with some primer.

We worked on it outside (Bills garage is pretty full atm - with an MGA & a MGB project going on!

With barely minutes to spare before it started raining we finished up. Man that's one nice looking new top!!

I've got a farmhouse electric heater in there keeping it warm right now so it will relax, its nice & tight!

IMHO don't hesitate to get a top from Prestige. Great quality & fit!

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

What? no pictures with the window zipped out?

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Well I'm letting it set up for a while, I don't want to stress anything. Maybe if the sun comes out & warms it up I'll do that.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Rick
Remind me to bring over my "Doorease" (lithium grease)stick next time we get together. Makes the window zipper work way better than without lube and doesn't stain anything.
Great stuff!(works on tonneau zippers too).

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Thanks Bill,
I forgot to ask about a light switch! Can you believe it?

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Stress anything, hehe. Just wait till you hit 70 or so. It will get some stress.
