Another soft top question - zip out rear window?

Does anyone use a zip out rear window top on their spridgets?
Is this as useful as it sounds, or is it really just a gimmick?
I can see there being times (sun right overhead) when having the top up would be good but you would still want a lot of air moving through.
Is this recommended or not?

Definitely recommended and that is what I plan on doing when I replace my top.

The zip out rear window has saved my butt (or my scalp) on several occasions while driving around in the summer. When you are rolling, air moves through just like the top is down... maybe better. And the shade really helps at long stop lights.

I took a three hour trip to Eastern Washington last summer and I have to say the sun was brutal. That's why I'm looking into tops with the zip window.

What tool do I need to install the tenax fasteners?

Hole punch is all.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

I haven't done anything with the female tenax fasteners, except fasten them to the studs. I assume once I get some it will be obvious how they go together.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

So who is making a top with a zip out rear window. Going price? I paid $25 for a used top that is on Bugsy now. Can't see out the rear weindow but it's done it's duty for 5 years plus 2 years of outside storage. Time for a new one.

Here's another:

EZ Soft Tops

Top with zipper window, about $280 shipped.

FYI - Checked with them yesterday, they don't do cloth tops with zipper-out windows, vinyl only.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

I wonder if a decent top guy could add a zip out window?

Will ask my guy next I see him.

I have wongered the same thing!!! I'm still thinking about a home-made Bimini top set up for the long, hot summer!!

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Thanks Stuart. I am going to give them a try. Figure it as AC for the trip in June..

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

I still wonder if there's any way to reuse the old tenax connectors? I've got a set of new mail tenax because I needed one - I could also buy a set of female connectors but why buy if my old ones can be reused?
Anybody know?

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

I pulled the trigger with Prestige on a SV top with zipper window. Not only can they deliver it to me for less than those ebay guys I'll probably get top notch customer service.
Does their top include the fasteners? I couldn't find that.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

The one I bought had the fasteners,Rick.
If you have any questions you can email them. You will get an answer.

Stuart.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Don't forget the pictures, Rick. I know your top is different than the Bugeye top, but not that much different. I'm really curious how it all works, and how the zip-out window improves things.

Re: Another soft top question - zip out rear windo

Of course you can use the old ones. No prob.

Thanks guys, this should be fun.
It looks like I will be driving my Midget sooner than I thought, the brakes in my B felt pretty spongy yesterday about a block from home.
I'd better get out there and pull Frank out of hibernation today.
