Back in 1973, after crashing his car in the South African Grand Prix, Clay's car burst into flames. Rendered unconscious, he would have died had Mike Hailwood not stopped his car on the circuit, run over and dragged him out of the car.
Hailwood was given a thoroughly-deserved George Medal (the highest civilian award for bravery) for his rescue. Clay's passing reminded me of that incident.
