He was the main male voice in the group, including the lead in the song California Dreamin'
 
Basil, they were one of my all time favorites, and remain so even today.
Just something about the lyrics, combined with their sweet harmonies that still gets to me.
And, Michelle IS the sole surviving member, at least of the original group.

You guys are all into the same music I am.

There was a PBS TV special about The Mamas and The Papas recently. Lots of old film showing them in various '60s TV shows. Michelle did a lot of the present-day commentary.
