The Mamas and Papas proved that magic can happen in music when the right group of voices happens to come together. Growing up I really enjoyed the M&Ps music (and had a crush on Michelle Phillips, who is not the sole surviving member).

Basil, they were one of my all time favorites, and remain so even today.
Just something about the lyrics, combined with their sweet harmonies that still gets to me.
And, Michelle IS the sole surviving member, at least of the original group.

There was a PBS TV special about The Mamas and The Papas recently. Lots of old film showing them in various '60s TV shows. Michelle did a lot of the present-day commentary.
