I have just been given this.
IMG_3445.jpeg

long story but I had it transported home yesterday. Looks close to complete but has been up on blocks for the last 33 years with the wheels off it.
Nothing moves. Nothing turns. Took the plugs out last night. Gave it a dose of WD 40 in the cylinders and sheeted it over. Lots of usable parts for mine or if I can get it running maybe the next project.
Not sure yet which way to go.

amazing - they just keep popping up - congrats!

What luck! Good on you. What's the condition of the interior and undercarriage?

Vauxhall turbo engine?
it is the 2.3 slant but alas no turbo. seats need a recovering, all the dash and clocks are there. carpets are like candy floss they just come appart like cotton wool but its all there.
the chassis i will need to have a closer look when i have time, but the door shuts are good so i live in hope.
but her indoors is hoping the chassis is toasted so i am not tempted to save it.

They do if i do a search on how many are still in existence, it is only showing 3 than have a minstry M.O.T.
but they dont need one as they are exempt. so that is no indicaton. there are a lot more Kallistas about than Limas,
But saying that, in all my life i have never encountered one on the road or otherwise. now i have 2 ish

does anybody have an elixir that is good for freeing off stuck engines,
this thing has stood for 33 years, oil looks good and fresh on the stick, plugs are a nice colour,
if i can get her running that would determine its fate.
When i can find time to get at it i will post a few more pictures

I used Marvel Mystery Oil on my TR6.It was locked up,but eventually ran
& held an idle.Never had a problem after that.
Remove the spark plugs & squirt some oil into each hole & either tap the starter,
or try and turn it over by hand until it frees up.
Someone else with more experience can correct me if I'm wrong.

Another thought is a brew brought to us by a fellow member, Dr. Entropy: A 50/50 mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone, or as he calls it, "weasel pee". It's used quite successfully in freeing up rusty bolts.

never heard of that stuff here in the Uk but sure it is known by another name.
I have ordered some sea foam which is supposed to do the trick.
and it matters not if it gets into the sump as it is used as an oil additive to remove gunk and frees off sticking lifters,
you can run for 300 miles with it added to the oil.

I got home from work last night. Had to open the bonnet to get a picture of the chassis plate so I can apply for the reg docs. Put a socket and bar on the front pulley and it moved a bit. Managed to get it out of second gear after freeing the linkage a bit and she turns over with the socket on the pulley. I can now select first and second gears with some effort.

This sounds promising.

Spent yesterday freeing off the brakes. Front callipers unbolted to get the pads and refitted without pads. Peddle is still at the top and solid. Spent three hours getting one of the rear drums off. No lip on the drum. Just welded the hub with rust. Started on the other drum. Gave up after two hours. Still not moving. Left it soak over night.
Whilst she was jacked up. I had a good look underneath. The both chassis rails are solid just a little surface rust. The outer box sections on one side the same. The other side just a few small holes. Drivers floor pan under the seat is like a stary night sky when looking up from underneath.
Maybe three to four days fabricating and welding she would be back to solid.
No way I can brake this car up.

Soak the whole thing in diesel for a month, that's the most penetrating oil there is. After draining & drying, anything still stuck play over with acetylene. Hopefully it was nice & greasy when laid up. If not, expect a few bolts etc to need drilling out & the boltholes re-tapping for 2 or 3 sizes up.

Another couple of hours. Managed to get the second brake drum off. Removed the shoes and put the drum back on. Now she rolls.
Distributor and carb next to strip and de rust.
Waiting now for the key to arrive. Previous own couldn't find it but now he has and is posting it to me. Then we shall see if I can a tune out of it

There is but one thing that works as an elixir. Mix ATF and acetone, fill the cylinders put the plugs in
and let it set. However long it needs. But first it should be borescoped to make sure the rust is not fatal
off the get go.

I thought her indoors would have a fit Md. but she is all for it.
There is a plot of land behind our house. She sugested be we buy a few square Mtrs to build a garage. I was going to break it for bits but i can't bring myself to do it.

Just a bit of an update, not had much time to do a lot due to making props for the school show,
managed to remove the dizzy, stripped it all down and found the top bush was broken off, new one aquired from ebay, so that will be good to go, stripped and cleaned the stromberg, Broke a float chamber screw and one of the dash pot screws clean off,
have drilled them out without damaging the threads, new set of screws arived today,
Surprisingly the diaphragm looks as good as new, will be fine to test run the engine,
The previous owner called me up to say he has found the key and is posting it, so that saves me cutting the steering lock off.
Apparently the car was running perfectly fine when it was parked up 33 years ago, so fingers crossed she will burst into life again,

I am quite the same way for old Tr3's . For some reason they seem to just show up here and beg for love
and a place of refuge.
My advise on a garage is always build it bigger (than you tell the wife ) or you imagine you will ever need.
