Just noticed that Borders Books is going away. Spent many an afternoon going thru the British collector car magazines...especially the ones from England.
Lost out to the ebooks and the internet....gotta wonder if it is a good thing...in the long run.

I quit buying new books when I noticed that were printed in China.

Yep, one right down the street from where I work. Going to miss going in there on my lunch hour.

Borders in New Orleans just opened a huge new store on St. Charles Ave. after doing a complete renovation of the old Bultman Funeral Home to the tune of many millions of dollars. They kept only the facade of the building and built a modern, escalatored first class bookstore within its walls.

Then they went bankrupt. Makes you wonder who makes these decisions to build such an expensive and fine building, following the super-strict guidelines of an Historic District.

They claim the i pads and electronic readers are taking away business. Over 10,000 loose their jobs! Something not needed in this terrible economic situation. I really feel sorry for them and their family's. Progress is not always progress, depending on how you look at it. PJ

You just never know what will be successful. Bass Pro Shop built a 310,000 sq/ft store that rivals the St Louis Arch for annual visitors. About 4 million. Yes I said 4 million, for a store.

Hmmmm....

...books or fishin'....

Speaks volumes, don't it? :frown:

Books can only feed your mind. Fish: body and mind.

The big bookstore chain in Canada is called Chapters... Last I heard they seemed to be doing well, certainly nothing of mention in the media...

Bass Pro you say? They is a fairly new store at the north end of Calgary as part of a mega-mall, and I'm aware of it's reputation as a great place just to go see the displays, I haven't been there yet just for the record, or the mega-mall either, just doesn't interest me at all...

Not so fast Greg... you can have your book and EAT it too!

I was watching an episode of Modern Marvels that featured the Springfield Bass Pro. The store has a staff of marine biologists for the aquariums. Pretty unique. Here's a photo and a link to MORE

If I put some BBQ sauce on and tossed it on the grill, would I be labelled a book burner and have my library card revoked?
