Another Oil Pressure Thread....

I have had two occasions where the oil pressure spiked after a little running of this driving chassis. Seems' to spike to over 100 and at idle back down to 60 where it sits for most of the time.

While the gauge is old and I'm not 100% confidant in it the difference of 40psi is my concern. Is that typical of a fully warmed up engine after a rebuild with say 20 miles on it?

Checked the bypass valve by removing the spring and it never goes above 20psi, so let's call that unrestricted pump pressure.

Also the spring had considerable wear on the sides so I know it's compressing.....

No water in the oil and no oil in the water so far. I wondered if I'm getting some compression leak past the head gasket? I used one of the new steel ones from DWM.
