I'm coming to the end of my 3 year restoration. I've been putting off two jobs for several months not wanting to deal with the expected heart ache. I decided it could not be put off any longer. Job 1 was to remove the black plastic covering on the stainless steel fender beading. I had an earlier post about how I had convinced myself that it was a good idea to leave the plastic covering on until I finished installing the fenders to protect the beading from scratches. That was a mistake. I had to unloosen most of the fender bolts and straighten the taps to get the plastic off. Four hours later, job done.
Job 2 was to assemble the new windshield glass in the rechromed frame. The last time I tried this 20 years ago I gave up after three frustrating hours and no progress. I finally took it to a glass shop and they installed it. I purchased a new windshield from Pilkington and new rubber seals from Moss. I'm happy to report that it only took two hours to finish installing the new glass in the frame and it was surprisingly easy. Got to hand it the our suppliers who recognize when a replacement part(in this case the old rubber seals) didn't work and found a better product.
I will install the windshield tomorrow and go for a ride. Long time coming.

Remember the shims that go between the lower plates of the frame's uprights and the hinge pillars. They keep you from stressing the whole unit and maybe cracking the glass.
Good luck,Bob
