Another horse race

Looks like another horse race between at least three members: t8nwa, Ross, MGZT260, and Rob_P, possibly some other lurking in the back.

This horse has been sitting on his mule waiting for the finale'. So, has the official end been moved to midnight on the 31st? I don't want to miss the last leg, but I will be waiting to see what develops at the last minute.

Yes, the new end date is 1 Feb 09, which means play before midnight (Eastern Time) on 31 Jan 08.

Don't forget to feed your mule, or you may run out of gas on the last leg. :winner1:

:nopity:...story of my life...

Ha ha,
I was wondering what you were waiting for. I suppose that is smart strategy... maybe we will all wait til the last day to finish ....

SP-putter! Noooooooo

leaky fuel pump. thank goodness i had that gum with me, only cost me 3 points, but that's 3 points i may need.

CR@P!

now i hit construction... i am now off of the winning pace.

legs 12 and 13 had perfect 10's reduced to 7 (fuel pump) and 5 (construction).

I knew the luck couldn't last.

If Ross goes out and posts a 9 or 10, it looks like it's his race.

This one has come down to the wire, looks like Ross is going to wait 'til the last possible moment, to see if he needs to use the bribe. I like the strategy, but don't trust myself to remember to play on the last day, so I will probably finish up tomorrow, i will bribe if i don't score better then 6.

If you're not first, you're last!

Great Rally!
Rob

Yes, but if you get at least a 9, and Ross stumbles, my only chance is an airlift shortcut.

Can't wait around for teh two guys in teh rearview mirror to double up on good luck so I'm going for it. What's that line by Chevy Chase, "Eat my rubber"

WTF,road went right past my house, I know these like the back of my hand, no way should I have been 46 minutes off. Somebody else's computer map is off. And then can't even bribe an official with my wife's homemade cookies. Sheesh, you should be able to smell them from where you are.

Okay guys, it's all yours.

If you think there is an error, please PM the details - which leg and which route did you choose and speed. Also remember that some legs have a "random" fudge factor that can range up to 15 miles either added or subtracted to the routes. The fudge factor is a seed number that generates a random number from 0 - to - whetever, then that number can be added (or subtracted) from the actual milage before the time is calculated. If you get unlucky and get hit was a high fudge factor, it can throw you off quite a bit. See the rules which explains this. The fudge facter will not be the same number for each player, it is randomly generated each time a player plays

Hey Rob, my question is, how many bribes have you already done? I had one early on that was successful, but I'm real reluctant to try it again, hence the wait until the last moment strategy. This is ending up like an eBay auction for something you really want...

On another topic, who's using what mapping program? I've been using Google b/c it's easy to switch routes and the interface works better for me than Mapquest. It looks like the Emperor uses Mapquest tho. At least the endpoint maps for each stage look like they're Mapquest. Any thoughts?

Hey Ross,
I actually haven't bribed yet (I believe you have a 33% chance of hitting)

I have been extremely lucky (until the last few legs)

The one time my calculations were way off happened to be the leg I got the lucky shortcut on.

I use google, but I use that for just about everything, so I am used to the interface.

Oh, and good luck!

MGZT260, nice race, the last failed bribe is misleading, you were right there til the end!

Ok, I just went back and painstakingly re-calculated the distance for one of the routes on one of the checkpoints. Apparently my map program took some weird detours which I did not catch, so the actual distance as described is really somewhat less than what I entered into the database. To be fair, at this point I have changed the distance for the leg in question to something closer to truth so any future players should not be affected. This will take a little while, but I am going to determine which players took that route for that checkpoint and adjust your score as if the route had been calculated with the correct distance (minus any random problems such as flat tire, construction etc.) I'm not going to say which route of which leg it was but if you were affected, your score will be adjusted accordingly. Sorry for the mistake.

Basil

Ok, on the checkpoint in question, I did a query to see who took the route in question that had the distance wrong. I then manually calculated their times. I then adjusted all the affected scores to reflect what their scores would have been had you chosen the speed you did but with the distance correct. There were four people whose scores changed as a result (and they all would have scored 10 so the would not have bribed, so I removed the effects of any bribes). Of the four affected, the only one whose score really made any difference was MGZT260, who is now tied for the lead. If no one beats the two currently tied leaders, then we will have a sudden death match to see who the winner will be. But is any player (Rob or Ross for example), out scores the current leaders, then they will win Of course there is always the possibility of a four-way or three-way tie as well.

I apologize for the error, but think I did the right thing by adjusting all affected scores appropriately.

I absolutely agree with the decision.

We have a log jam at the top!

Yup, it's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game...or allow the game to be played?!? Good on ya Basil. I guess particular rally has been a lot more work than expected!

When I check my standings...I show a score of 84. but when I go to check my details and add my scores I am getting 99...why is there a difference?

I think if we have a 4-way tie we'll have to get together in person. Even if I get beat at the end I'll still know it was fun all around.

I used at various times google, mapquest, yahoomaps, and default Live Search maps from microsoft. Never once did I use a paper map. Or stopwatch.
