This is probably going to sound like a crazy question but here goes. How many of my electrical systems should work with the key off? Currently my wipers, turn signals and heater fan will work with the key in the off position. Is this normal? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
They should only work with the key in the run possission. look at your fuse block and see if there is a green wire on the bottom fuse. It should be connected to the second from the bottom fuse.

On mine ('64) the second fuse IS the bottom fuse. On the '77 all but the lights (and mebbe the horn, IIRC) should be inop with the key off. In addition to checking the fuseblock, you may want to grab a wiring diagram and drop the column cowl to verify the iggy switch is connected correctly.
 
Ok, the electrical problem has been solved. Another classic DPO wiring job. I first took the wiring diagram and checked out the fuse block. Everything was in its proper place. Then I looked under the dash. Didn't take long to spot the problem. MY DPO had run a jumper wire from the Emergency flasher hot wire to the turn signal flasher Green wire keeping the whole system energized. I disconnected this "little piece of engineering" and regained key control of everything. The reason he had done the jumper wire trick was because he had no power to the turn signals. Turned out the only problem was a loose connection on the back of the emergency flasher switch. Well at least your DPO left the hazard flasher switch in place. Mine removed it and left a bunch of bullets floating around under the dash.

Good thing they didnt go off and shoot you in the .....anyway what did they do with the wires after they removed the switch? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
