Another DPO sufaces

I hope that the exhaust coming out of the bodywork like that would be illegal in any serious racing formula...

Pleeeaassse... tell me that it is ... Pleeeeasssse...

I am very familiar with the 2000 pinto engine. I have one that I completely rebuilt and is in my dads basement because I wrecked the pinto before I could fit the new motor. They are not that powerful, though those folks in england were getting more power in the 2000cc formula fords than I could believe. Still why butcher a bugeye and the 2000 is a lot heavier than the 1275 so that must throw the handling off. That does look like the 2000 timing gear sticking out of the hood. God what goes through people's minds.

heh. Maybe it made its debut in Nazereth, PA? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I can get GOBS of power out of a 2 liter Pinto engine, and they have their place, but certainly not in a Bugeye!

Big cams and high lift equal broken timing belts. The 1600 was better with a timing chain. The brits got loads of power out of them as well.

So by "pinto" engine do you mean the 2-litre SOHC that Ford UK designed? I have a vague memory that it was called the "Kent" but my Ford-awareness ends at the Lotus Cortina and the Escort RS1600. Lord how I coveted an RS1600 when I was in my 20s....

One and the same mate. We had the fuel crisis and the pinto came out with the 2000 in it in 1971. Did not handle very well and had a bad little problem with exploding when rearended. One of my friends had a rust bucket Cortina with the 1.6 and someone had workd on the engine and it had a 4 carb setup. That car was an absolute blast for about 8 months and then MOT time came around and it would never pass (could lift the floor mat and see the road /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif). I wish I had that engine.
