Well, the engine is out of Rusty(bout 2.5 hours to pull engine and transmission). I've broken the top end down and seems that I have a fairly worn little engine. After I pulled the rocker shaft off, I could grab the flywheel and rotate the engine pretty much freely with the plugs still installed...lol. I can see that the clearance between the pistons and the cylinder walls are what I would call extreme. The number 3 exhaust valve is black and oily (not firing?) and there is about .060" of carbon built up on the top of the pistons...lol. I only post this to say that it was a miracle that the little engine could generate enough power to pull the car down the road. All in all, I thought it still made a good amount of power so I can't wait till it is renewed. Morris, the front nut came right off after a couple of clacks with my $60 impact wrench from lowes, same for the flywheel bolts. I also have scratches perpendicular to the crankshaft but they aren't too deep. I can't catch my finger nail in them so I doubt they are more than about .005". The ridge at the top isn't too bad either. I tried to measure the bore but couldn't operate my inside mic inside that tiny cylinder...lol. Guess this is just a progress report but I'm excited to see that the internals are in pretty good shape and wanted to share.

Long Ago, When We Were Young... Friend with a Spridget decided his 1275cc engine needed to be refurbed, so at the curb of his townhouse apartment he undid the "stuff" and two of us with a chain and a piece of angle iron lifted the li'l engine outta the car. We drained it and cleaned it off and then hauled it INTO his apartment. The rebuild was done on his livingroom table... it was a large wood cable spool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
 
I've used the chain and piece of pipe method to pull a buick V6 a couple of times. Fellow never changed his oil...sad. Anyway, Morris, I borrowed an engine hoist from a buddy who had my engine stand right now. I don't think you can do it without the hoist. The transmission felt like it weighed in at around 60 to 70 pounds and with the top and flywheel off the block,(pistons and crank coming out today so I can properly measure my cylinders)I can't pick it up. I can move it around and sorta roll it over onto its side but I can't pick it up off the ground. I'm putting it somewhere around 125 ish. You can rent engine hoists. Disconnect everything and get it ready to pull. Then go get the hoist, snatch it, and put the block where you want it, then take the hoist back. Should cost you more than 35-50 bucks for the hoist for half a day. Otherwise find a big oak tree, and by a cheap comealong.... that's another story.

Top ring on #4 Cylinder was broke. That would be where all the blowby was coming from. Ridges don't look too bad, think it's mostly carbon. Someone has been here before, scribe marks on the rods. Pistons are standard but the bearings are .010 under. Not real sure that it will have to be bored. The cylinders are so small I can't really get good measurements on them. I'll let the machine shop figure it out.
