Seems that the turn signal relay immediately after start up starts clicking like a turn signal is on. But there all off. Sometimes if I smack it slows down or after driving the car for some time. Is it shorted? Maybe some moisture has gotten into it but I would not have thought that there is any power to it until a turn signal is activated. It gets very annoying after a while. Save me!
 
I don't see a turn signal relay on the TR250 schematic ... are you talking about the turn signal flasher, or the hazard relay?

Either way, my first suspect would probably be the hazard switch, as it is involved in both circuits and is reputedly a known weak spot.

The turn flasher is hot all the time, any electrical leak to ground (like corrosion inside the hazard switch) can cause it to flash. Normally the hazard relay does not flash at all, but here again corrosion or leakage at the switch could make it flash.

I'd get in there with a test light, and find out what is flashing, first.

Do you see any lights flash at all (like the hazard or turn indicators on the dash) ?
 
:iagree: These hazard switches are known for minor corrosion. Add that to the fact that the way it's all wired is a bit bizaare, if effective, and I'll wager that the switch is your problem.

Note that, after 40 years, they get not only corroded but brittle, which makes removal, disassembly, cleaning and reassembling a bit of a risk. Nonetheless, it's just possible that simply flipping the switch on and off a few dozen times or more might "clean it up" enough to get everything back to how it should be.
 
Yes, the TR250 has a conventional 2-terminal flasher. Some folks refer to them as a relay. It's located in the passenger foot well. These are very cheap, so get a new one an try it. Also, check your turn signal switch for a partial short. You may have a bad stalk switch which has a partial (high resistance) connection. Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to clean the contacts. replacement switches are available from the major suppliers.

All, the contacts clean up very nicely with carb cleaner. Take the covers off and stuff rags around the area, using the small nozzle that comes with carb cleaner, a few seconds will do wonders, it may take a couple of times before they shine. Don't forget it will run down the wire cover under the steering wheel, so have a rag or two there. Get your overdrive switch while you are in there, if you are that lucky. Safety glasses should be used and covering the dash and seats might not be a bad idea, if you have never used this stuff.

Ok thanks. It is the flasher I was referring to. I was just a little to tired to think of the proper terminology. I'll stop at Team Triumph and get a new flasher unit. Last summer I got a used turn signal switch from them. Worked great but I did not do any cleaning that I recall. Maybe I should do that first.

I just bought the 2 terminal 'Loud Flasher' from Advance auto parts this weekend. It's yellow and quite big and made by Tridon/Stant. (Not sure if you'd have the equivalent store where you are). As the name implies it has a good loud click, audible w/ the top down. In any case, the 2 terminal flashers aren't terribly specific and plug right in, I bet you can find something at a local parts store. Some of them are too quiet for a convertible though. One more note re: Loud Flasher - it says it's made for high load applications (e.g. trailering/ multiple flashing bulbs) and may keep flashing at the same rate even if a bulb blows.

Thanks. Ya I've had that same problem where you can't hear it when the top is down. Good Idea and I'll check it out. However I do have Team Triumph 10 miles from my house. An resourse that I can go get any part for for my TRs and have most in stock. If not in a couple of days. I'm lucky!
