Ankle up-date: crutches and screws

Went in to see the doctor today, two weeks after my surgery for a broken ankle. They took the stitches out, and everything looks good. I'm in for 4 more weeks on crutches, with no weight on that ankle at all. I go back to work on Monday -- that's a good thing, but I will miss some things about hanging out at home all day.

Looks like I'll be setting off airport security scans now. Doctor said that they'll leave the plate and screws in place unless they start to be a bother.

Probably the biggest fuss is that since it's my right leg, I won't be driving anytime soon (my car is a stick anyways). So my poor wife gets to be my chauffeur. Luckily we work together, so getting to work won't be a problem. Gigs will be more complicated. I'll have to pay her a cut for roadie fees.

Re: Ankle up-date: crutches and screws

Well, Drew, you're officially "screwed" now, I hope it doesn't hurt too badly.

And, we promise not to start a new thread entitled "Drew is screwed".

Take care, man.

Re: Ankle up-date: crutches and screws

OUCH! That hurts just to look at!

~~ Hey, is that bottom one cross-threaded? ~~

Hey Drew- Anyone of us could have done that job. Couple of screws, small drill and voila! Nothing to it!
Glad to see that you're on the mend.

I keep having visions of the doc in the operating room with a Dewalt screw gun and a box of Grabbers...

If she'll get me to the show she can have pretty much whatever she asks for.

Drew
You are not far off. Having done a few in dogs, that is just about correct. Except the box of Grabbers will cost you about $1000.00 for a nice selection.

I've already got plenty of spare screws in the garage -- besides, this way I'll always have a few spares if I'm out on the road.

I suppose it's all much the same thing -- line up the brace, drive the screws in. Not surprised about the cost, though. Let's face it, I'd rather they were using the good stuff!

Re: Ankle up-date: crutches and screws

 My thoughts exactly!

BTW, Drerw... Ya know it's easier to sterilize a brace-n-bit than a DeWalt...

Jus' sayin'...

THAT oughta put your mind's eye to work overnight. :jester:

Did the Doc put a drop of Locktite on them?

Which color is appropriate for this application??!! LoL

Re: Ankle up-date: crutches and screws

Good to know, Steve. I figure I'll have the scar to explain it anyways.

Have you had any trouble with the plate/screws?

SWMBO has a rod in her back and a similar plate setup in her hip. Needless to say, she NEVER makes it through the scanners at the airport and gets the "special treatment." Scars and Xrays don't hold water with TSA.

Re: Ankle up-date: crutches and screws

Ouch! Good to hear you are mending. Follow Dr. orders and don't
forget it is still healing even when you aren't hurting.
I pushed the envelope a bit following my back surgery and it
set me back a couple of weeks. Take it easy big boy!
Enjoy the meds and .....pardon the pun....kick back.

Get better soon!
