I was at my desk when my Wife comes into the room & shows me
how the remote for our Christmas tree lights works.
A remote for Christmas tree lights? What's next?

And next Christmas, you don't even need to buy a tree!

Full disclosure - we have a remote for the outdoor lights and I love it! means I don't have to go out in freezing temps to plug it in/ unplug it. :D

A few years ago we installed a simple but permanent string of lights on our porch.
The porch doesn't have any power outlets so I had to drill thru the siding to get power from the garage.
I had a remote that plugs into the cord and it helped with on/off function.
The cheap remote eventually stopped working and I wanted to go automatic on/off.
I had an extra old lamp timer around the shop and set it to turn on at night.
All I have to do now is plug in for the start of the season and unplug in January.

Wow, I like that idea.
I used to enjoy going out to the tree farms, choosing the 'perfect' tree and cutting down a fresh one.
Fitting the tree to one of our tree stands was always a challenge but doable.
Getting the lights and decorations down from the attic in the garage was a nasty job.
I usually had to clear a spot in the living room to put the tree and left the trimming to the expert.
Some years like this we forgo the tree completely.
