We have ordered a book to help with our project, until then....the wiring is *&#! NO ignition, a puch button start and it appear the light switch was removed to add the push button. Lots of hanging disconnected and cut wires under the hood. We need pics to figure out where what is and wherre it goes. Any sites? Is the blank hole on the steering column undet the horn where the lights on/off switch should be?
Where's the clutch slave? We were told that is why the clutch doesn't engage, but we can't find it anywhere. WHere to look?
Pics of the engine bay would be a great help. (Particularly orignal set up pics)
Step 1: Get it off the trailer and into the garage.

Clutch slave should be on the starboard side of the trans, low on the bellhousing. Fastened to it with two bolts.

Wiring... I'm hunting the URL for the on-line diagrams. The link has been posted here a number of times, but I can't seem to find it now. FIGURES.

Here ya go, Terri!

find the year-appropriate diagram and have at it. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

Okay, first off, she's a 1980,so...

1) the light switch is on the left side of the steering column in a hole in the steering column cowl (yes, under the windshield wiper)...if the switch is gone, so is its wiring since it has a short pigtail that goes back to the main dash harness under the column to the left side....yours should've had a connector (I think white) with 5 or 6 plugs-ins...the main harness should still be there...

2) In case you're not a sailor, by 'starboard' side, Doc means passenger side.

Ri9ght about now, you need a Bentley manual, a Moss catalog, & The Original MGB[/b] for references.

Have the original MGB manual on order...expected it yesterday..still waiting. We have our Moss catalog, Northwest Import parts and local Moss distributor on call.

Thanks guys, off to replace clutch slave and bleed the brakes in the hopes we can get this guy off the trailer.

I'll post our progress later this weekend.
T:smile:

I shoulda said it with a Mainah accent: "stahbahd." /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

...it's only the "passenger side" if it's not really English. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I know that Elsinore, DK is very close to Mordor somewhere in the misty mountains. But it's no waya neah Maine, where they say stahbid and pourht.
I always thought the passenger's side was "the other side' or "that" side.
Terry, I think that Tony is kinda local to Arkansas, and his advice is probably a little cheaper than most of the other Moss distributors.

Thank You for your help...I actually was a sailor in an earlier time in my life so I understood the starboard reference....I even know that its starboard-green and port-red. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Thanks Doc! Guess I'll be tracing wires all day tomorrow. Man, sometimes it seems like it would almost be easier to just pull it all out and start over than to trace and figure out what was done by whom! Is it ignorance or laziness that puts these cars in such a shape? (I mean..really now, like I had a clue before I started...at least I am bothering to try and do it right!)

I wonder if Kinkos is open on Sunday?

I just got done dealing with a whole buncha things the DPO did to my roadster. Coarse thread bolts into the flywheel being one of them and and not even cutting the flywheel when they replaced the clutch.

On your car, the dash wiring harness can be disconnected from the main harness & replaced separately....your ignition switch comes with all its own wires & plugs into the dash harness....so, concentrate there

& you're lucky - the seats are out so you can lay down & look up under the dash.

Thank you Tony...perhaps while the hubby has his head under the hood tomorrow I'll crawl under the dash and start work on disconnecting everything....its strange, oil pressure gauge, clock, horn, speedo, all works..lights, completely disconnected along with signals, heater/vent controls....can't quite figure out what went on here. It will just take some time to sort it all out.

I actually learned this trick while working under the dash in the midget...one thing I'll say...wow! LOOK AT ALL THIS ROOM! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Terri
I have both the under dash wire harness and the main harness for a 1977 MGB. If you find your system is destroyed beyond reasonable repair, I will give you these. You will only have to pay shipping. I've got a few other parts around from a '77 "B" that has been let out to play with a new owner.
PM me if interested an I'll give you my e-mail

Dave

If ya DON'T take Dave up on that offer you're makin' a BIG mistake, Terri!!! In the scheme of things it will be a whole lot easier to replace that goober'd up harness than to chase the problems one-at-a time. Everything will have the correct color-coded wire to it!

Yay Dave!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif But then Doc is always right.
