And for the Engine Oil Leak

This one surprised me. The leaking, which is not exactly minor, is coming from a hairline crack at the drain plug. The pan appears to have been braised with copper or brass right at the drain plug, and it's just seeping right though a crack in the braising.

Is this rare? I can fix this by taking it to a good metal working shop I presume.

Am I correct?

Sounds like maybe someone over-tightened the drain plug.

I'd take it to a welder, see what they say about it. If they can repair it, then afterwards clean up the threads with a suitable pipe tap and use a good PTFE paste sealant on the threads.

I presume we're talking about a TR4A? Good used oil pans are pretty cheap and easy to replace. Look nice too, when repainted.

That (I think) is how they were made in the first place. But I agree that over-enthuiastic wrench work may have caused the crack.

I wonder whether loosening the drain plug might greatly reduce the leak? IOW, remove the plug -- stick your finger over the hole -- yell for your wife to come out to the garage -- have her finger take a turn -- you use the PTFE paste on the threads -- redo the plug but not as tight this time.
