I am looking for pictures of the tranny, from the underside, looking up at the area below and around the dust cap (?) on the drivers side. Also looking for pics down the shifter tunnel of the reverse switch.

huh?...did u lose something? : )
what r u tryng to do?....my tranny
is disassembled right now, maybe i
can help....z

ok, remember I just bought this car and have yet to drive it.
1) lying on my back looking up at the tranny, with the front of the car at my feet, I see the drivers side dust cap opening, I need a new dust cap. If I put the correct amount or 20w50 oil in the tranny does this dust cover keep the oil in the tranny?

2) just in front of where the dust cap goes but on the bottom of the tranny there is a small hole (maybe 1/8 or 3/16 diameter) there is a cotter pin sticking out, the split end is sticking out. Is this supposed to be there, wouldn't the oil drip out of there?. Do I need to open the tranny and remove this and replace it with a plug??

Help please

oh yeah and
3) I am trying to see where and how the reverse switch is installed (this is a 1970 midget) from the pic looking down the shifter tunnel

I think the reverse switch is at the 2 oclock position as you look down on the shifter from inside the cockpit.

I've had my 5-speed for several years and therefore can not recall a proper picture in my mind.

Dust caps on the tranny are for keeping the clutch clean and dry. the oil is sealed in the transmission. You can reach the filler hole from an access plug on the inside of the car on the driver's side of the tunnel.

The cotter pin is supposed to be there. It rattles and keeps the drain hole from getting stopped up.

The drain hole is for the clutch area as is the dust cap. the drain is supose to take care of any sepage from the front transmission seal and the rear engine seal.

cool ! great thanks guys. I was worried there for a few minutes

so that's what that cotter pin is for. I was just looking at that the other day. I had two trannies. one with and one without that cotter pin. i would have never figured that one out. Where did you get that tidbit of info? Thanks!

ur reverse switch is on top by the shifter....
the cottered drain hole is to let any leaks out...you DONT want ANY liquid on ur clutch parts..all oil goes in the part where the gears are, and the oil hole is next to ur right leg under the carpet...use a funnel

Guess I have always known that, no clue where it came from.

Ok I searched through my boxes of bits and found no dust cover. Anybody know which part it is I order. I see two in the moss catalogue. noumbers are 461-870 or 461-875.

461-870 is for the top of the bell housing and 461-875 is for the side.
