I'm not a tiktoker so I don't do stupid videos but I am always on it keeping in touch with people.I'm not "always" on it, but I do use it for a lot of useful things (at least I think they're useful).

Yup...Mike - that is a *great* description of what many of us wish for. People who communicate - not just people who sit and stare at their screens.
Thanks!

Lately I have taken a much more benevolent view of email. I now look at it as simply the modern way to write a letter, and as such email has the benefit of being able to be used to archive conversations. I have recent emails from Doc about cameras; I have old emails from Tony about MG Magnette carbs, and emails from my grandmother about old family photos she had found.I prefer face-to-face or telephone conversations over, say, email.
I think your observation is spot on.I spent almost 40 years as an economics professor at a large university and I witnessed a noticeable change in student social skills in later years. I am no expert, but it sure seems like the rise in texting has had resulted in a loss of some social skills. Many students seem to be uncomfortable in face to face conversations and they seem to have a real problem reading body language.
Did someone say “Walkman”?I am on my phone more than I would like to be. I use it for work, and it has managed to nefariously creep into my life more and more. It is now my walkman, my phone, often times my camera, and I have instagram. At the same time, I actively try to put it away for a few hours each day. I own a Faraday bag that I shove it into to disconnect from the world.
I had the original Sony Walkman Cassette player while going through OTS. It was a great stress reliever to listen to Moody Blues, etc., as I did my mandatory running on the track after classes.
I was in a bike shop a couple of years ago. The lady asked me my name to look me up in their computer. I said my name is Elliot and immediately the ladies iPhone laying on the counter said: “Pleased to meet you Elliot”.My wife
asked me
why I speak
so softly
in the house.
I said I was afraid Mark Zuckerberg
was listening.
She laughed.
I laughed.
Alexa laughed.
Siri laughed.
The TV laughed
The iPhone laughed.
It was a fun time.
Exactly! It's funny - until you realize it isn't.
You've got one of those new ones.
Yup...
...as I sit and stare at my screen....![]()
So sorry to hear of your bypass surgery. I hope you have a speedy recovery. A month is not very long. To help with the boredom, just post more often on the BCFI'm on my phone most of the day at the moment.
Recovering from a double heart bye pass. In my fourth week. I can't do much and boredom is killing me. But I have to say there is so much fake news. Or click bait which takes you to a page full of adds.
