An MG Owner Did This To My Wife Sunday

I've lived by the motto, "It's nice to be important, but important to be nice"!
I will help people because that is what I feel, we should do.
And to Dale, I'm very proud to know you. I consider you one of my circle of best friends. There are also, a lot of people on this forum who believe in the old ways of helping without thought of themselves.
And, yes I'm an MG man (and Chev, Honda, Ford, Triumph, well you get the picture CARS!)

I've stopped for a LOT of LBC's off to the side. Sometimes even an MG. Once on the Ohio Turnpike while in the Elan I even stopped for a 911 PorkChop. He was on his way again in minutes (backfire blew the CIS boot off--- he was a doctor, not a car tech). If I can fix it or help, I do. Only ONE time did I leave: A big healy (3000) sat at the side of the interstate so I pulled over. A short middla-aged guy with an overabundance of bling was standing beside it, using profane language directed at the car and I got the immediate impression he was a "speculator" who'd acquired it thru an estate sale or some-such and was trying to drive it to a 'shop' fifty miles away. Totally unknowledgeable about the car, abusive to an uncomfortable level... MAYBE I could have done something to assist but he had a cell 'phone and a VERY bad demeanor. I opted to stand down, as the tow company he'd called was on the way. I left. He was apparently a "hog-lot" owner and figured he could gain a big profit from someone else's misfortune. Greed overcame reason. Too bad. <shrug>

Dave,

Have you been in Tillsonburg a long time. I have relatives from there. You can email me directly if you want to take this off the forum.

Common courtesy is too often missing these days. He should have asked your wife if she needed assistance. She would have refused of course, after all what kind of help could anyone driving an MG offer.

hey Dale. The MGB on the side of the road, was that restored by Pedro also? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Its not the car, its the attitude.
I work at an auto auction. I had the good fortune of driving a Porsche 911 covertible back from the dealer 2 weeks ago. About 25 minutes into the trip, pulling away from the light, the car left a huge cloud of smoke behind it. I pulled over to the side of the road, and the battery was dead.

I had called my coworker on the cell. Lots of other Porsches, Audis, and Saab convertibles drove by without a look. A beat up 1990 Ford F-250 extended cab diesel stopped by. Out came a short guy with his beer gut hanging out of his work shirt. He was exceedingly nice. He turned his truck around and gave the car a jump, just enough so I could pull the Porsche to a side street for our tow truck to pick up the next day. I gave him a huge wave and a honk as he pulled away.

I asked why he stopped. He said he hates to see people on the side of the road. I got the feeling he has been on the side of the road broke down in his life too....

Sorry to get back so late but I've been very busy and too tired at night to get on the computer. Your comments have all been very interesting and seems to be a slight consensus in my belief. Got to tell you that it seems that way around here in Northeastern Ohio that the MG owners have an attitude about Triumph owners. Not sure why but I've been around LBCs for almost 40 years.

To answer a few of your questions my wife was not sure who was driving or if there was a passenger. I would have been thrilled to have any LBC help but if it is an MG owner for now on, I'll have to check the tightness of the knock offs. LBCs are a rare sight around here and I'm always thrilled to see one. Not only the timing of one happening by when broken down but humanity says you should have at least ask if help is needed. The prince of darkness would expect it!

Got to tell you one experience I had a couple of years ago at Team Triumph , our local parts distributor for LBC cars. A guy came in while Scott the owner and I were doing business and sort a butted in demanding why he closed early one day that he came to purchase parts. After Scott explained and the customer said oh ya you probably knew a MG owner was coming and you don't like having parts for our cars anyway. Then he looks at me and said , (I'm sure I had an expression on my face). So I suppose your working on a Triumph! After it was over Scott said he gets that from time to time. These type of instances make me want to believe that something is fueling this.

Your right in saying it's a person or more a personality and not the car. We all have our quarks and why we like one brand over another. I know of 3 MGB owners locally that are cool people. 2 are customers of mine and the other Walter in Champion OH we meet at the TRF parties for 4 years now and chum around. Even some that have Triumphs and MGs. Just kind'a wondered if others experience "some" arrogance in MG owners too. That's what this listing is all about.

Also got to brag that I added to the collection today. I'm now a proud owner of a 1969 TR6 OD CC29843L. Truly found in a back of a body shop with a 1/4" of bondo dust on it (one of my customers) from 1982 when it came in for paint work and the customer abandoned the car.

You left your wife alone, by the side of the road in a disabled vehicle?

ok, lets get real here.... never mind whether its a mgb or a triumph...
