The Testla Electic Car

I agree, I would not mind taking a spin in one of those! SOmeone finally figured out the formula - make something people will like and not an electric rollar skate and maybe the free market will work!

Ouch! Over $92,000 BASE price! I think I'll wait till the market brings the prices down - a lot! Thats almost double what my C5 Corvette cost, which by the way, due to low weight, great aerodynamics and high gearing, gets 32-34MPG on the highway! (honest)

Agreed. But while I'll never be able to aford one - ya gotโ€™a admit that it almost seems like a bargain when you see that it has the performance of a Porsche Carrera GT and a Lambo Murcielago, the pricing doesnโ€™t seem so out of line all of a sudden.

Right, and in about 200 years you'll save enought to justify the cost LOL! But I'll bet it will be just like everything else - once a demand is established and others start making competators, the prices will start to fall! I remember a few years ago walking into a Circuit City and the cheapest plasma TV you could buy would set you back 10 grand! Now, I see them for under 1k! If I could get something like that Tesla for under 50k, like my Vette was (just), then I might take a serious look at it!

I bet WHEN those Lithium Ion batteries take a dump {and they will eventualy} replacing them is going to be one BIG owieeeeeeeeeeeeeee on the wallet.
Not to mention the cost of disposing of the old ones.
Then there is the electric motor, when it needs SERIOUS maintenance!
Im thinking even if the initial purchase was in MY price range, the maintanance fees are NOT!
I guess Ill be driving gasoline until I take my last breath *SIGH*

I agree about replacing the batteries. I donโ€™t know if Lithium Ion falls into the same category as Lead/acid with regard to disposal fees. Definitely save on oil changes, filters, banged up or rusty exhaust pipes, etc. Personally, I think a small 30 HP bio-diesel engine running a generator is the way to go. That could cut down on a lot of battery weight.

According to the company - the cost of recycling the batteries is built into the selling cost. Without getting into the details, the conservative estimate is that you should get about 100,000 miles before needing to replace them.

They figure the batteries are good for about 500 charging cycles (thatโ€™s 100% charge to 0% discharges) and it takes about 200 miles to fully discharge the batteries. After 500 discharges - the batteries will still work, but performance will start to drop off until you replace them.
