Amos waking up

With mountains of appreciation to Yisrael and Randall
who gave me step by tiny step instructions on how a
non-mechanic like myself can install front wheel
bearings in a '69 TR6. I took a bunch of photos and
I'll author a :How To" in the near future.

Oh..... and thanks to Paul for the torque tip.
One flat turned with pliers = 5 pounds.

Amos is slowing coming together. A photo of Amos'
driver's front hub:

Dale, once again a job well done, you need to gather all your post and write a book on "How TOO (NOT) Buy a TR6" or TR6 for Dummies.
Great job(S) on all your work.

Now ON TO THE HOOD!

Show us what's the problem with Crypty's hood, so you can turn it into Amos!

Those are some real pretty hubs! You do have a dust cap to keep them nice and clean? Glad you got it all together.

Dust Caps..... DPO Pedro???

Now that the funny for today!

Proper dust caps will be in-place before the car
is driven anywhere. The car is not streetable right
now with carb/ignition problems and no way to close
the hood down tight.

STILL waiting on parts from TRF. My OWN boat could
make it to Pennsylvania faster than TRF can pack and
UPS parts.

Ron: Both pieces of the latch locking gizzmo are plain
worn out. The bottom hole piece is worn too large, the
top, long, pointy piece worn too small at the tip.

I gotta be real careful on this description, Basil might
ban me for approaching porno XXX TR6 hood catch parts.
The hole gizzmo no longer tightly grips the pointy tip
piece.

The first bump in the road and the pointy piece pops out
of the hole piece and the hood then flaps in the wind.

New hood latch on order TRF.

It's always something, ain't it??

Don't forget there are other parts places available.

BP Northwest, my experiences with them have been exemplary.

Moss Motors(I prefer Moss Europe) as they have more parts available.

Rimmer Brothers, again in England, but my experiences with them have been good.

Victoria British, a mainstay for several of my fellow BCCH(British Car Club of Hawaii) members.

to name but a few of the major suppliers.

Unfortunately a common complaint with TRF. To some extent, that's a side effect of their passion for the right part; they frequently buy from small operations in the UK that can't always meet the demand (especially when the owner takes a 2 month holiday !).

But IMO it's also because Charles isn't the worlds best businessman. He very nearly bankrupted himself (including TRF) building and running the Conventry Inn, and to some extent the problem still shows as lack of inventory.

As a result, if you're in a hurry for something, it's best to call and speak to John Swauger or Dave Hagenbush (sp?). They will tell you if a part is on the shelf, and have always been good to me about getting stuff out ASAP if I tell them I'm in a hurry for it. John has even broken up kits for me when I needed individual parts that were out of stock. If they say it's not on the shelf (even if it's "coming in Tuesday"), best to try somewhere else if you're in a hurry.

Well done Dale. The hubs are looking great along with the rest of the car. I'm looking forward to your restoration guide!

Ron:

A photo just for you!
The Crypt Car playing tricks on me.
Hood pops up like this when I hit a bump.

Folks point and holler, cars honk their horns
and point and holler.

Geeesh! Like I'm not aware my hood is open and
flapping. The latch is worn out I'm afraid.

But Amos will have a brand new, reliable hood latch
mechanism with a Tinster designed emergency hood release.

My experience with BPNorthwest, although very limited, has also been very positive. Good prices, fast shipping, and you can track your shipment online. Moss has been quick to ship as well so far. I've been pretty lucky so far in all my purchases, even with all the eBay suppliers I've used. "TRguru" and "bluechips2001" are two ebay suppliers who I've done well with though I'm sure everyone's experience may vary. One of them sent me rear vs. front shocks by mistake, but they quickly remedied the problem. I guess I can't even complain about TRFs shipping speed, since I received the parts I ordered about two years before I actually used them!
My car doesn't actually have a hood latch mechanism apart from the [risque text alert] hole that the springy rod-a-ma-thing goes into. Were those (hood latches)standard on all cars or just some models?

Okay, thanks for the pic

Understand now, My car shares a similarity, in that the latch mechanism fongooolahed it self. So it would not close. I removed the striker, made sure the height adjust bumpers set the hood just slightly lower than the fenders. And the hood does not bump up and down on me. Course when I am coming down the H-3 at speeds better than 75 it will start to raise right where yours is lifted, so it is my speed reduction reminder. Been that way for a while and I'm just too lazy to fix it as I keep telling myself that the other project car in storage is gonna get the goodies from this one. Just too lazy to get going.

An addendum on TRF, which I believe I mentioned previously; I received a made in China window regulator for the drivers window several years back. The bolt holes were metric, not US/British thread, no bolts or warning notes included in the packaging. I called TRF and was answered insolently. So, it's YOUR money you are spending. I just choose not to spend it with TRF, unless I need to.

John-
There is a chance you have a TR4 style latch, it only had the springy rod-a-ma-thing. I'm pretty sure TR6's had the extra safety latch attached.

I fitted the Macy's Garage one and it is excellent. I also installed the lever stop bolt to prevent the possibility of it going over center.

Dale, if you missed a post I had on this installation a while back I will repeat, when you are trying to line up the spring and rod in the hole, use a rope, wire, or plastic strap to hold the clip part open, that way you can adjust until it slides in and out easily and not take a chance on getting it locked up.

Paul et al-

I have had the emergency latch in place for many months.
It works fine and dandy. That is not the problem.

The original firewall piece (hole) and hood piece spring
with weewilly inside are both simply worn away and no longer
lock together.

A new assembly coming from TRF sometime in year 2007,
I am hoping.

Is there anything that is sacred on this car, or did Pedro get to every single part????

I'll tell ya Paul. I have asked myself that very same
question a thousand times over.

It seems not matter how deeply I go into this car,
I can never find OEM virgin areas. DPO Pedro never
lifted a tool personally but his junkyard mechanic
seems to have buggered up the innermost workings of
this once fine auto.

I am still finding metric fasteners in this car.
I am still finding small things buggered up for
no reason I can think of.

ie: the dust covers behind the front brake rotors.
They were only secured in place with one of three
bolts. Why?

Castle nuts with bent over wire nails instead of
cotter pins. Why?

The list is endless. Sometimes it gets frustrating.
