American V8 Engine Quiz

15 outta 17 is darn good, this a difficult test. Who in heck remembers what a "nailhead" engine looks like?

I got 10 of 17 and lucked out on a couple. Can't fool me on Ford and Chevy small blocks tho', and the 348/409s with the W-shaped heads are instantly recognizable.

Tough, but excellent test. :yesnod:

Mark, There's no doubt mine was a "mis-spent youth". I did think the nailhead would be an easy spot though with its strong "family" resemblance to a certain British V8 with a known ancestry to the colonies.

9 otta 17. Not into V-8's I guess.

Not very good: 14 of 17

& probably the only reason I did so well is that I'm working on a V8 project right now.

I got 16 of 17
Just lucky, but I did grow up with this stuff.

Dave :savewave:

I recognize this engine:

14 out of 17 here. Did better than I thought I would, haven't been around that stuff for a while. I'll send the link to couple of my brothers.

My "domestic" experience is scant, got all of seven of 'em, all were "older" ones, Ford & Chevy small block, the wedge and a guess...

I'm actually pleased to not know that stuff. :smirk:

Oh phew, I'm not the only one

Indeed not, JP. It was just a huge waste of pig-iron in any case. :smirk:

14 outta 17.. Learned most of mine gluing them togeather in 1:24/ 1:25 scale.

Just as well you're saying that here - them 'ld be fightin' words in a lot of other places. But don't worry, I'd hold the door shut while you make good your escape. :driving:

Me too.....17 of 17 though....

For the most part engines can be ID'd (at leasr for me) by distributor location, valve covers, exhaust manifolds and alternators. That's what I relied on for the quiz. Too many plastic models and Hot Rod magazines in my youth I guess! LoL

Only 13/17.Some were easy.
I really thought I'd only get 2 or 3 right.
Try this with the newer 4cylinder engines -
I can't tell a lot of them apart.
