You've been hearing of the box recently re-discovered in Boston. This silver plate found inside the box, is really interesting, especially for the Masonic references.
Here's my attempt at reading the inscription:
This corner stone of a building
intended for the use of the legislative
and executive branches of government
of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
was laid by
his excellency Samuel Adams, Esq.
governor of said commonwealth
assisted by the most worshipful Paul Revere
Grand Master
and the right worshipful William Scollay
Deputy Grand Master
the Grand Wardens and Bretheren
of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts
on the 4th day of July
An.Dom. 1795
A.??? 17??
Being the ??? anniversary of American independence
(Wish I could figure out the line under An.Dom. 1795, and the specific anniversary. There are many ways of interpreting the actual date of our independence from Great Britain. Not the date of declaring independence, but the actual date of independence. I'd guess the September 3, 1783 signing of the Treaty of Paris, or the final exchange of ratified copies in 1784 ... but I'm just an old guy interested in old stuff!)
