Amelia

and when you say you were present, what exactly do you mean, that you were buzzing the facility that evening? :saturn: would certainly explain a lot.

I was a maintenance team chief - we were responsible for preparing all the computer and peripheral systems for the NORAG SAGE Air Defense System. I was preparing a display console when the call came over the PA that there were two "unknowns" in our sector. I watched the entire episode looking over the shoulder of the Senior Director as they scrambled the fighters.

There is no such thing as flying saucers! I have it on good authority from an AF
Wrong Tom. I took a flight on a UFO and nothing happened to me.

Intergalactic flights will do that Tom.

Story didn't last long. No kidding. In 1937 the Marshall Islands (where the photo was taken) was under Japanese rule. There are no Japanese flags anywhere to be seen in the photo.

The aircraft at the end of the small freighter is a single vertical stabilizer - not the dual stabilizer of Earhart's L-10.

And of course the little detail that the photo had been published in a book in 1935.

oops

Close - but no cigar!

So, seriously now, was it a UFO?

Seriously, I never heard any solid explanation of just what it was. I can tell you that the next morning two officers from NORAD HQ (Cheyanne Mountain, Colorado) arrived and took the the Master Operational Recording Tape (MORT) for the previous evening away in a locked briefcase. We were told not to discuss the incident (it was declassified years later). So in the sense there were objects that were airborne and they were never unidentified, then yes, they were UFOs. One thing I know for certain - the incident happened because I was there and had a front-row seat.

Interesting - there is much we yet don't understand - though this sentence once again implies that you are their leader and they were coming for you.
