Seems like researchers now believe Amelia did not die in a plane crash but was assassinated by the Japanese along with her navigator on the island of Samoa. Quite convincing article last night on TV. Supposedly a government cover up involved. Na, they wouldn't do that. :rolleyes2: PJ
 
Darn, I heard about that show and wanted to see it but got sidetracked. Maybe they will rerun.
 
Being so interesting, I believe the show will run again. A man in his 90s said when he was a child he saw an airplane unloaded from a ship, which as he described, looked like one that Amelia had and supposedly scrapped right after. Still a lot of questions. PJ
 
The photo is interesting, but of course, there are doubters: https://www.thedailybeast.com/ameli...vidence-debunks-history-channels-crazy-theory The existence of the photo would lead one to believe the US had an operative or a source on the island, that one would expect to have reported that Amelia was there. Unfortunately, the History Channel should probably be renamed the Conspiracy Channel as they have produced a number of sensationalized shows like the Hunt for Hitler, Ancient Aliens, etc, etc that take nuggets of information and mold them into whatever theory they think will grab the most viewers. That said, I'm still a sucker and watch them all the time.
 
Assuming the History Channel is like other corporations, next they'll want to maximize shareholder value by focusing on core competencies, leveraging market penetration and eliminating functional redundancy.

So their next show will be about how a secret society persuaded Hitler to have aliens abduct Amelia.

Rick - I totally agree on the History Channel bit. And the series Secrets of the Dead. yeesh

I hesitate to believe a "history" show which begins with spooky organ music, slimy caves, and shadowy figures carrying a candle in the dark.

I watched the show last evening. It ended leaving the conspiracy theory up to the viewer to decide.
Interesting but as we all know it's a "made for TV" audience to sell advertising time.
 
I take it with a large pinch of salt. I heard interviews with a lady who as a girl heard Earhart's distress calls on her father's HAM radio outfit. Very convincing, and no axe to grind/commercial incentives.

I was born a year after she went missing, 1938, but other than the war going on, good things happened in 38! The first alcohol testing device was invented, it was called "The Drunkometer" and Martians attacked earth, at least according to Orson! :highly_amused:

Being a native New Englander, I can't hear 1938 without thinking of the great hurricane of that year. Every hurricane thereafter was measured by my parents' generation against that one. The loss of life and property damage was on an incredible scale. Here's a history documentary the way they should be done:

I was present in the NORAD SAGE complex the night THIS happened. It was classified for years. When declassified, this incident was featured on "Unsolved Mysteries" TV show.
