Amazing! RC helicopter flight

Looks like a big dragonfly...wonder how many crackups he had before he learned to do that?

There's a little RC heliocopter field not far from me...they're way more fun to watch than the RC airplanes.

Whats more interesting is that was a demo of an electric helicopter, and a fairly sizable one. That was unheard of a few years ago.

Flys so fast it looks like a dragon fly! Too Cool!

I love those videos. I think they need to get all those guys together and put guns on their helicopters. Now THAT would be cool!

Unreal!! My friend got one about 6 months ago. He uses it daily and he can barely take off fly about 10 feet and come back and he is a talented guy. He's close to tripleing the price he spent on it, just on repair parts. I hear these are a you know what to fly.

I want to get one of the "training" RC choppers someday. The rotor blades all fold up so when you tip it over they don't get broken. As easily.

My buudies has "training wheels" on it and the blades also colapse when they com in contact with somthing, but at that speed they just crack & throw off the gyro. He paid about 2 bills for the kit. The blades are $40 a pair. It adds up everytime you bump something.

Dang. I haven't had time to play with mine for awhile. I taught myself to fly helis when I was in HS, but that was before gyros and the fancy radios were really affordable for me - so I did it the hard way. Got through hover to forward flight, but without a gyro flying the tail it wasn't fun. Got the bug about 5 years ago and got another one (already had a decent radio by chance) with a new solid state gyro for the tail. Flew it in the back yard for about a gallon's worth of fuel to get used to it and trim, then started forward flight. They're every bit as easy as flying an RC airplane in forward flight, you just have to use "rudder".

This was while I was still trimming mine out, with the training gear on. Flies a lot better with 'em off:

I really admire the fellows who can handle these little RC rigs. I have a commercial helicopter license and have used them to lift heavy objects off the ground and place them on buildings, plus many other things. I tried to fly a gas powered RC model once and cracked it up every time. Even though I have a lot of experience and knowledge on the real things, it was no help to me trying to fly one of these little jewels.

I kinda figger'd that'd be the case. Think I'll stick to burnin' money on my cars. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I know this is a little off thread 'cause these choppers are real, but I thought this belonged in the thread (don't mind the Japanese dialogue!) /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
