We gots ourselfs annexed into a city that has made all personal fireworks "illegal". Now we wait to see how many folks want to see how many coppers can be in how many places at one time.

A friend of mine's a lieutenant on City Police force here. 22 years on the job, beginning as a beat-walkin' cap, he's seen it all.
The cops hate these Holidays because of all the idiocy that happens. Thank goodness fireworks are banned in the City limits. The County, though, lets us purchase a Saturn rocket if you want it for 4th fireworks!
Dangerous stuff, especially in the hands of drunks.

They have been 'practicing' around here for the past week. We are allowed 'safe and sane' fireworks that are sold by civic organizations for fund raising, but the possession of the good stuff is what they call 'zero tolerance', the city will impose a fine of $1000, but it should be a federal offense. Been that way for years but it still doesn't stop them one bit. There are not nearly enough cops on the street to have any effect. Both of the dogs are totally tranquilized, but every time a bomb goes off they still go berserk and try to break down doors to get away from the noise. Before we had these dogs, I enjoyed the spectacle, and sometimes participated, so I try to live and let live. The idiots in this town, blow off actual dynamite at all times of the night and day. Even in the early AM. That behavior really makes me sick. Can't do anything about it.

All fireworks are illegal here. Which is fine with me.
We went to our local college (where I work) and sat on a hill with friends last night and watched stuff like this for about 20 minutes. Excellent! (these shots are from about 1/4 mile away)

We have "neighbors" around here that get together & light off
highly illegal fireworks (the kind that go hundreds of feet high)while
there's dry grass around this area.I've called the Sheriff's office,but
would never be here while they were shooting them off.
I was threatened a couple of years ago by one of these "neighbors"
that I "better not call the cops on them".As I'm involved with the local
Fire department,I feel that I can't just "look the other way".What would
happen if I did that,& someonelost their house because of this?
These are supposed "Adults" - about 1-2 years older than I am.

Reminds me of a police friend of mine. Whenever he gets called in for a "domestic disturbance", shooting, etc., he finds that the neighbors never heard or saw anything. No one wants to face someone in court.
And a neighbor of mine lives in a home surrounded by dry land and very dry trees. The folks next to him set off illegal fireworks every year - not just on the 4th, but many other holidays too. Actually set fire to his workshop's roof once. Plus, the noise terrifies the kids and their dog, who shrieks, claws the furniture and runs around the house every time there's a "boom".
Neighbor has asked them at least not to set off the illegal stuff, but they pay no attention. "You're not patriotic! Don't you think we should celebrate? What country are you from?"
Probably happens all over the USA.

Must be the area. I'm in La Crescenta, CA just outside of Glendale, and I haven't heard so much as a blackcat/lady finger in my area. Then again we had the "Station Fire" in my back yard 2 years ago, people uphill from my street were evac'ed. So, that's still fresh in peoples minds around here and could be why...equiprx said:

Two years ago, I asked my neighbors to refrain from setting off the big noise stuff because it was making the dogs really freaky. They immediately stopped and didn't give me any grief about it. I was surprised, since they are basically immature drunks that have very little concern for anyone. Unfortunately, I can't go all around the neighborhood and reason with about a thousand other people. Last year, my wife took the dogs up to her sisters, to get them away from the noise, so I walked down to the neighbors to let them know they didn't have to worry about the dogs, but they said they didn't have any big stuff that year.

Even the drunk neighbors were showing real concern and commenting that behavior was unacceptable.
It's nice to see some mature behavior coming from somewhere I never expected it.

First 4th we were in this house (many years ago) the neighbor across the street (an adult couple and two tweeners) set off a bottle rocket that missed Herself's head by inches and hit the garage door a foot behind her. It got carried back to point of origin and the whole clan were told in VERY explicit language that if there were one more of those things launched, their entire family would be walking "funny" for weeks. Came back, called the LEO's, explained the situation... the deputy who showed up had a further conversation with 'em and we never heard a peep outta that household the remainder of the two years they lived there.
...I may have mentioned that I'd had enough ordnance aimed at me during the war that sometimes, after coming back home I'd find myself on the floor with a gun in hand, looking to return fire on "the enemy" due to a car backfiring...
