Am sure things will straighten out, I’m new to BCF, but I’m confused by everything! My quorum question disappeared before I finished writing. I’m lost

My alternator nuts and bolts fell out somewhere and left my alternator hanging. How far can I drive without a fan belt? I have a Revotec fan. Repair shop about six miles away.

Hi Britter .... you don't say what car you drive, but at least it's got an alternator, so it can't be that ancient? The Revotec fan will keep your engine cool which would be the usual concern, but I've driven a car about 6 miles or so with broken fanbelt, no problem. I had the heater going full blast to help engine cooling, but that won't be a problem for you. The battery was in good state, and as long as you keep other heavy electrics off (eg, no headlamps, etc!) I reckon you should be fine. Let us know how you go. Gareth J

Greetings Gareth, Thanks for reply. The car is a ‚61 TR 3A, bought in the US from pictures on the internet. It was junk and with only a bit of exaggeration the gas cap is the only thing original on the car. The alternator is an aftermarket Bosch (made in China). The battery is fully charged so don’t expect problems there. Am now awaiting replacement parts. The parts weren’t in stock but promised for next week. Thanks again, Paul
